Tesla Model S production reaches 400 cars a week capacity

Tesla Motors has doubled its weekly output of the Model S all-electric luxury sedan over the last three months and is now approaching full capacity of 400 vehicles a week – 20,000 a year.

With more cars out on the road, Tesla's over-the-air software update system is proving its worth. This system allows for important software changes – which allow the driver to turn on a "creep" mode, for example – to take place without drivers spending time in a Tesla service center. In November, Motor Trend named the Model S its 2012 Car of the Year.

I saw one of these model S pull up @ my bank and the driver claims that there are 2 now in MANITOBA
its a good looking car in person and I hope they actually sell well enough to turn a profit

Fisker, and Tesla dealers are both in my area and I have seen both in person now. The Tesla is becoming more widespread it seems, and I have seen at least 3 different cars in or around where I live.
I want a car so violent that the mere thought of full throttle would cause a heart attack. That actually going wide open throttle in would result in nothing less than instant death!

i've seen 3 of these out on the road already and they are really nice in person. I am a big fan of Elon Musk because of his passion and his willingness to take on big risks even after people have told him he was done. Would definitely get a Model S if I had the "resources" to purchase one!

I started a thread about my drive in a model S "performance" the other day. It is an amazing vehicle with a,stunning amount of power. The only negative I saw, other than the $87k price, was some road noise.

I guess that means in about a year we'll see if Tesla will survive. They should have all their pre-orders filled by then.

If tesla can keep the production and quality going then they should be fine. the car is that nice. It doesn't have the manufacturing and fitment problems you see with most smaller manufacturers lke Lotus. It is amazing that they have gotten a new car company off the ground with the ability to produce 20,000 cars a year. My guess is they will be bought out by someone.

    Yeah. Daimler or Toyota.
But for now, I'll enjoy the fact that one of the coolest new cars on the road today is being built 40 minutes from home.

Yep they amaze me and I think they show the lack of drive to really push out an elecrtic luxury car by all the big guys. Please GM be smart and don't let a foreign company get them. Heck Ford should kill Lincoln and try to buy this company and flush it out.

Me too. There's a good chance I'd jump at it if it's anything like the Model S.

Re: Tesla Model S production reaches 400 cars a week capacity

So a few short months ago, there were folks here saying Tesla would never make its production target, its business plan was overly optimistic and basically a pipe dream (no experience with mass production, etc.), and pretty much dismissing the company as doomed to failure. Meanwhile I was saying they stood a pretty good chance, had made some brilliant marketing moves, and mentioned I had bought their stock, which at least one member was saying was a foolish if not idiotic move. Well maybe so, but that same stock is up 25%, the factory is now cranking out the Model S in targeted numbers, and the company is predicting to go profitable by the end of 2013.

    Ha.
