This should have been a Malibu. But GM loves SUV's too much.

What is the timeline of the 2nd generation 2-mode?

The FWD 2-mode fits in the Vue, not in an Epsilon car, we've been told it won't fit in a Lamda. Did they ever have plans to put in anything other than the Vue? I sure hope the 2nd gen is coming soon! Hopefully the next generation BAS (BAS+?) will be a huge improvement, if so it will make 2-mode availability less critical.

I don't know the time frame but the 2nd generation 2 mode will be lighter, smaller and less costely. I don't know if it was ever plan too be put in the EP/EP2 car's, but BAS+ System will be out some-time in 2009 , it is a huge improvement , it will be lighter, smaller, cost less and be able fit in any model car/chassis.

The two mode hybrid will make wonders for GM. So far, the BAS hybrid ain't cutting it. Simply turning off the car and turning it back on won't do much for stop and go driving.

Re: GMNext: Saturn VUE Plug in

The only problem I see for GM with Hybrids at the moment, they have too many (I can't believe I am saying it) different types on the market or coming to the market.

Toyota has everything under HSD right? GM has an alphabet of hybrid types.

Not criticizing them for all the work they are doing (the 800lb gorilla is on the move) but it does make it harder to advertise the different types on offer.

Re: GMNext: Saturn VUE Plug in

The biggest mistake with the Vue 2-mode was using the 3.6 instead of the 2.4. I think it could have made some waves with the 2.4 but will sell like the Tahoe hybrid with the V-6.

There's no way an assist hybrid can compete directly with a full hybrid.

Just look at how the hybrid Civic mpgs plummet when it gets stuck in heavy traffic and when it climbs hills. There is a big difference not having a second motor and a power-split.

This will depend on the sticker price, and the mileage rating vs. the standard V6 model.

Much of the Tahoe's problems are a combination of an inibility to touch a hybrid model under $50 large, and a weak economy.

If they can get 2 mode to go from a bus application size, to a Vue size, they surely can get it to say a G8 size at least, if not Malibu size. But no, I guess the only GM customers worthy of a true Hybrid are SUV buyers.

Seriously though, I saw a diagram of the 2 mode system in the Vue and it didn't look all THAT big. They would have to make SOME changes but it looked doable IMO.
