GM invests in 2nd ethanol company

...
Mascoma, a Boston-based company, has been developing a process using bacteria and yeast to break down plant matter into ethanol in a single step, a system the company thinks could produce cheap fuels by 2010. Mascoma plans to have a small test plant in New York running by the end of the year, and has plans for another test plant in Michigan that would use wood chips to make ethanol.

Re: GM invests in 2nd ethanol company

Wasn't their (Exxon) former CEO the guy who made one half BILLION dollars take home last year? Poor guy I am thinking of looks like Jabba the Hut with a turkey wattle neck, surely could afford to get some "work" done.

This shows GM's commitment to alternative fuels, I hope it turns out to profitable, GM needs the money.

Re: GM invests in 2nd ethanol company

I wonder if it's legal to sell fuel at a cheaper price to GM owners. I suppose this would open a huge can of worms.

I'm open to it, as long as you get extra discounts for never owning anything EXCEPT GM and having more then 6 GM vehicles currently registered in your name

GM could sell E85 for whatever it wanted if it had the production and distribution facilities.

Re: GM invests in 2nd ethanol company

They could sell it to dealers. Then the dealers could have small gas stations on there lots. And they could pass the savings on to the people that buy cars from them. I would be game.

Re: GM invests in 2nd ethanol company

how do you figure. if GM is investing in Ethanol all over the place, they are probably planning on creating strictly E85 or even E100 only versions of their automobiles, what was it that they had a 6.2 or 6.3L V8 optimized for E85 that actually got 10% better power and 8% better fule economy?

Dosent sound like much, but 8% of 35 goes to 37.8 on just engine, add 2 mode to that, another 10-12% thats 41.5MPG wile using fule that dosent line the pockets of american enemys.... Cobalt ET-H (Ethanol Hybrid) could be a boom for the comuter cars.. I still think Diesel would be the best for the larger trucks though. Offer them in all RWD vehichles that curb weight over 4500lbs with 6 speed auto...

But what do I know...

Re: GM invests in 2nd ethanol company

Ethanol is a waste of time, money, and resources. Hydrogen is the way to go. We can make it easily now, and if companies like GM invested money into building nuclear power plants, wind farms, solar arrays, etc. devoted to producing hydrogen from water we would be completely self sufficient, and have virtually unlimited fuel. Any excess energy could be put into the grid to sustain any electric cars that will be made.
