Re: GM Cancels Most of its Hybrid Lineup - No Hybrid Sedans or Midsize SUVs

Toyota has to subsidize the sale of Prius..with few being sold now because the masses do not want to drive a dustbuster.

Re: GM Cancels Most of its Hybrid Lineup - No Hybrid Sedans or Midsize SUVs

BAS+ could be good but with tight or non existent money they are circling the wagons around Voltec. BAS is just a generation behind in both ICE and transmission. If you would take the 6-speed and DI 2.4 then the gains would likely be much better. The two-mode was a gamble that lost. They thought starting with the large vehicles was the way but folks who want hybrids want small. They gambled on the 3.6L with the next phase and once again a bad decision, but not the only ones to make the same mistake. If they would have gone for a 2.4 combo from the beginning Malibu two-modes would be on the road today.

Re: GM Cancels Most of its Hybrid Lineup - No Hybrid Sedans or Midsize SUVs

When I was looking for a car, I could not find a hybrid Aura. The dealer would tell me that they are not mass produced and they would be getting one soon. If GM really wanted to sell hybrids, they needed to build more and have more than one car on each dealers lot.

Honestly I think that GM should just skip the 2-mode system and jump right to Voltec.

I don't see how you can have the Volt and a BAS "hybrid" on the same showroom floor, maybe GM figured out this sort of mixed message would be far too confusing to people.

Also aren't Two Mode SUV sales absolutely minuscule? The problem is that most customers don't really want a V8 SUV, they are fine with a Crossover.

"But da gubernment led by Barrak Hussein Obama is forcing GM to sell green cars and dictating their product line - thanks GUBURNMENT!"

I guess, um, not.

The problem all along for GM has been not setting clear goals. Then consumers don't even have to care about what the particular technology is. For example, Toyota set the following with Prius:

Price: low 20's

Efficiency: 50 MPG

Emissions: PZEV
.

Prius sales are so horrible...they only sold 10,000 of the Prius last month compared to 1,700 total hybrids sold by GM. Cadillac or Buick didn't sell as many vehicles as Toyota sold Prius'

You don't say why the 2Mode is obsolete? Do you know of a better hybrid system available now for large vehicles?

GM can sell the 2Mode. Why don't they? Instead of promoting something you can't buy they should be building up a solid hybrid owners base with what you can buy.

The Volt will sell in low numbers for several years and its reliability is an unknown. Also a big unknown is how many consumers will be willing to plug their vehicle in. Declaring victory in hybrids with the unavailable Volt is awfully premature.

Re: GM Cancels Most of its Hybrid Lineup - No Hybrid Sedans or Midsize SUVs

I am sure this won't be reported well by the media.

But, in all honesty the BAS system is an embarassment as GMs Hybrid. It did little to improve fuel efficiency for how much it cost. They should make it an option on all trim levels if they want to use the system and not have the Hybrid as a trim level itself.

Not to mention most I saw at dealerships had tacky decal packages on the windshield and sides proclaiming they were Hybrids that were dealer add-ons for a good chunk of change.

A) All Saturn vehicles are cancelled. That leavs the Malibu.
B) The Hybrid Malibu was on short supply and had not been out long
C) It only added about $1,800 to the vehicle from what I remember.
D) No it was not very effective but it was something.

Wow....

And people wonder why they went bankrupt?

How about spending millions on development of their "mild hybrid" Aura -- then sell an amazing 134 of them.

Way to go, Rick. Excellent management skills -- it's a shock that you are unemployed.

Ok, I have to say this....

Vtech

VOLTEC

Got it?
Good

And there is a difference between Full Hybrid and Mild Hybrid. Of course if we were talking about Ford's Hybrid tech, which was at one point licensed Toyota tech, then I guess you would defend it

Look at the window sticker the Tahoe and Hybrid Tahoe get the same mileage...the Hybrid cost more.

So far, I've seen about a half a dozen Two-Mode Tahoes, which is a pretty good number.
