Algae to biodiesel farm starts operations 4/1/08

PetroSun's algae-to-biofuels plant to commence operations

Quote:
PetroSun's initial commercial algae-to-biofuels farm is scheduled to commence operations on April 1, 2008, the company announced last week. The farm, an 1,100 acre salt water open pond system, is located on the Texas Gulf Coast near Harlingen, Texas.

The site currently has 94 five-acre and 63 ten-acre ponds on the 1,831 acres contained within the algae farm operation. The company will extract the algal oil on-site and transport the raw product via barge, rail or truck to company owned or joint ventured biodiesel refineries. The residual algae biomass will be converted into ethanol or other products.

Why didn't they give an estimate of what the plant will be capable of? Or did I miss it?

Is this in a hurricane zone? If so, didn't we learn our lesson from Katrina? Geesh

Good to read some positive news on fuels of the future though!

Yes, this is a hurricane zone. It is not placed there because we "didn't learn our lesson." It is an open pond algae farm, and likewise climate plays a role in where it is placed.

Oil companies didn't put platforms in the gulf out of ignorance. They placed them there, because that's where the oil is.

Thanks for the picture of the Petrosun farm. This is the beginning of a major industry, which could add many jobs. I think the stock is unvalued @.16 cents. I have been buying for the future. PSUD
