Just the Facts:

• Ford is offering a major discount of up to $10,750 for leases on its 2013 Ford Focus Electric.
• The discount brings the price of the 2013 Ford Focus Electric down to $29,245, including a $795 destination charge.
• Ford is also offering a cash discount of $2,000 on the 2013 Ford Focus Electric.

Ford is offering a major discount of up to $10,750 for leases on its 2013 Ford Focus Electric, according to Ford.com.

Ford's vehicle configurator says the discounted price on the Focus Electric is good from now until April 1. The configurator says a customer could get a 36-month lease for $285 a month.

The discount brings the price of the 2013 Ford Focus Electric down to $29,245, including a $795 destination charge.

Ford is also offering a cash discount of $2,000 on the 2013 Ford Focus Electric.

"We are on track with the Focus Electric introduction with plans to expand sales to all 50 states early this year," wrote Wes Sherwood, a Ford spokesman, in response to a query from Edmunds.

is that 29200 + or including the TAX rebate of 7500 as a lease the tax can go towards the car price and is the purchase price now 29200 - 2000 or RRP - 2000?

Something is wrong with these figures.

The Ford configurator includes the $7500 federal tax incentive.

Factor that out and the lease and cash buy both have about the same incentive.

Why would the lease incentive be four times the purchase incentive?

There's no real rocket science here, Ford is copying what GM does with Volt by applying
government incentives to leasing so that buyers get low lease terms.

Ford sold 167 Focus EVs in December alone for a total of 685 last year when attractive
lease deals started so I'd say it's working at shifting vehicles but will never be that big..
At the end of 2012, Focus EV inventory was around 1100 cars, so we're talking peanuts

Most of the Focus EV costs were shouldered by Magna who supply all the electronics.
The Focus EV was developed as a response to government legislation, I Imagine that
the Focus EV is the ultimate electric progression on the energi hybrids where the ICE
is replaced by a larger battery pack while still using the Ford electric CVT transmission.

That's right, as reported in August, the rollout was cut back from 19 centers to California and New York:

Blue Oval to concentrate on California, New York for first several months.
LINKFord's marketing team posted a message on the My Focus Electric forum detailing plans to cut the planned 19 rollout markets -- including Chicago, Detroit and Seattle -- to instead concentrate exclusively on New York and California for the first several months in 2012. The message, from Ford EV marketing manager David Finnegan, reads as follows:

For the first few months of production, we will be concentrating on California and New York. Our dealers in those areas will be the first to have their retail orders scheduled and receive the Focus electric. We will be rolling out to the remainder of our initial markets starting in spring 2012.

So at the moment, Focus EV is still limited to about 19 key markets and not available to all dealers / regions

As much as I understand GM's Volt approach (completely different looking car) I like the fact that Ford created alternative powertrains for a standard platform.

I just checked, and there are a total of 3 in Canada.

How can a $10750K rebate be a big deal?

And the fact that it is for "Leases Only" Smells of GM's EV1 fiasco.

I believe that the Focus Electric, is nothing more than a Test Bed.
