you know I agree with you.

They should at this point kill the Impala or let the Impala be the fleet queen and allow the Malibu to reduce its fleet sales.

At the same time though they should replace the 2.4L with the 2.4L direct injection and the 3.6L with the 265BHP 3.0L V-6 engine. This should give a fuel economy boost for both the I-4 engine and the V-6 engine to give an extra incentive to get the Malibu.

Sigh, another 'reputable' list with something inexplicably 'off' - I think.

Perhaps just a presentation issue with a little labeling vagueness.

Going by the 08 ranking numbers ..... some don't seem to make sense.

Wonder...if thats some of your #s missing - look at 08's #5 and #6.

( There are several more as well )

I spot checked a few of the ( 08 ) volumes - the three I looked at were correct and the 09s seem right .......I dunno.....

Here is what they said a year ago -

Quote:

July 1 (Reuters) - The following are the 20 top-selling
vehicles in the United States through June 2008, as reported by
the automakers.

Total sales of the top 20 vehicles fell 5.3 percent or
-155,890 units to 2,800,817.

Following is a list of the top 20 selling vehicles, ranked

Forget about fuel.If you cant get credit fuel doesn't even enter the equation. I would think fleet sales would squewed that figures a lot.

Except truck sales are down in the thirty-percent range as well...Only a rare few are bucking the trend of this recession; the key word as to why vehicle sales are declining.

Nope didn't realize that

Look at the numbers again for Corolla, Civic, Focus, Prius, Cobalt, they are close to having the 5 worst negative percentages. In theory cheap/fuel efficent should be least affected but they are basically the worst affected.. of the top 20. And it wont just be the old Domestic = fleet rule as the Prius was off over 50%

2007-2009

trucks

Ford F-150

355,438 - 179,632 -50%

Chevy Silverado

310,896 - 149,949 -52%

Dodge Ram

185,257 - 94,516 -49%

toyota Tundra

82,516 - 36,106 -56%

compacts

Honda civic

173,800 - 118,459 -32%

Toyota Corolla

202,221 - 121,643 -40%

Ford Focus

96,732 - 69,354 -28%

Chevy Cobalt

96,437 - 51,676 -46%

The reason that this is important to look back over a 2 year period is because last year was under circumstances and this year is also under circumstances however are different. Fuel prices being high creates a circumstance where consumers look for more fuel economic vehicles while gas prices have been pretty low due to the poor economy and the credit crisis has most likely taken an even chunk out of sells. With the lower gas prices altering the balance, however even with gas prices lower trucks have still suffered more then compacts and we must remember that the Cobalt for example is about to get replaced by the Chevy Cruze and the Focus isn't the best car out there.

Its like when the big 3 had their employee discount sales which greatly inflated their sales figures then the next year they had to compare to greatly inflated sales figures. So looking at the year before was more telling about what the sales trends are and in this case the sales trends are that trucks are being hit harder then compacts.

Yeah, but the 2008 numbers are:

Toyota Camry / Solara........239,881..... 3

Chevy Silverado-C/K P/U.....231,320..... 2

How was the Silverado 2nd when it sold 8,561 less than Camry/Solara? Maybe the ranking originally didn't include Solara? Or it's simply an error.

That could be one component. But we're also in a recession. The typical entry level buyer (Cobalt/Civic/Corolla) might have been hit harder.

The 3 for the Camry and 2 for the Silverado are based on 2007 figures where the Silverado actually did outsell the Camry.

Even with only people who need full size trucks buying them, they still account for 25% of the sales on this top 20 list, interesting...

Granted that you only have 5 choices when it comes to full size pickups which means more sales to go around fewer vehicles which means more vehicles in the top 20.

The single biggest market segment is if memory serves me right mid size sedans followed by compacts.

Consider this, the top 20 account for about 50% of all sales so far for this year and the only full size pickup truck that isn't on this list is the Nissan Titan, so 25% of 50% = 12.5%.

So based on this rough guess the full size pickups are around 12.5% of the total US market right now............

So if the domestics gear for 10% of the market... They are after all looking for profit per sale.

63GrandSport001 - added some stuff to the lists to make it clearer ie to correct for their poor presentation.

C1 ....C2 .....C4.....C3 is the more logical order of their numbers - which supports what you are saying, I hope ?, I think ?.

In other words ( C1 C2 and C3 ) YTD 'go together' and C4 ( CYR ) goes by itself, last.

Basically they 'mixed up' their column order between C3 and C4 ie reversed them and were too sparse in their labeling ..

Didn't take "bailout money" but did take millions from the government 2 weeks ago to pay for the development of new efficient and alternative energy cars. Of course that all flew under the radar.
