As far as the Japanese go, Mazda in the UK are like Suzuki, Subaru and Mitsubishi - pretty small players. Even Toyota and Honda are no big shakes either.

The important thing to note is that, while they might not be topping the sales charts, Honda, Toyota and Nissan make a big chunk, if not majority, of what they sell within the EU in the UK.

It also interesting to see the least expected ones to record some of the greatest increases - Volvo (yup, not dead yet!), Fiat and Citroen. All those brands have new models going into "affordable premium" territories at different levels.

Couple this with 16% market share for the German Holy Trinity, and over 25% for the luxury brands in the top 25, and you will see that affluent European markets are increasingly shifting towards premium - both in terms of the actual vehicles sold, and the brands. GM, deprived of Cadillac and Saab in Europe, is missing out on this big time for the most part.

THE most important thing to note is that GM have spent an absolute fortune ($550m spread over the next 5 years) advertising a brand (Chevrolet) that is a complete lame duck in the UK (and not much of a success in other "affluent" European markets either) at a time when Girsky is spouting that GM are looking at every penny they spend in Europe. Kia and Hyundai have Chevrolet's target market sewn up tight already. With Saab long gone it leaves Cadillac as GM's only "premium" hope and to be honest despite the fact that cars like the ATS are very good it will take years to establish the brand as credible in Europe (if it can be done at all!) because of the mistakes and half baked efforts of the past.

Yep; for some (stupid, IMHO) reason GM has all but forgotten the premium segment in Europe. IDK how it's seen over there in Poland, but from this end of Europe the wrecking of SAAB and the lack of any real decision-making in pushing Cadillac is just insane.

Hopefully results like this will end the stupid talk of replacing everything with the chev brand name.
