WOW...now GM was on strike for several days and one of its key suppliers was on strike most of the month but the Prius got sold out mid month and lost about 10-12 days of sales...BUT...

GM........ 268,892 .. -30.2 .. 19.3 .. 1,326,906 .. -17.2 .. 21.4
Toyota.. 257,404 .... -7.9 .. 18.5 .. 1,046,852..... -5.0 .. 16.9

11,488 unit difference in May..

PhishPhood, your extreme bias and likely employment base is showing .....again .

You somehow managed to post only part of the numbers SKIPPING the most important ones that ARE strong for GM.

After this horrific May 2008, a rough 2008 in general, all the extra special GM SPECIFIC bad news such as ALL the strikes etc - here's part of what you 'forgot'.

........................Sales volume 2008 YTD / Market share 2008 YTD
GM:........................ 1,326,906....................... 21.4%
Toyota:.................. 1,046,852........................ 16.9%

GM Advantage:...... +280,054.....................+4.5%

That 280,054 means that in the 5 months just gone by, GM has built a cushion over Toyota thats still larger than 1 months worth of Toyota sales.

Put another way, Toyota, with the 7 months remaining in 2008 would have to average a performance of over 40,000 units per month better than GM in order to tie in NA.

With much the same in mind, the race for 2008 is going to be as much about Ford versus Toyota ( much closer YTD than GM/Toyota ) and Hondas likely big gain against GM, Ford, Chrysler and Toyota.

Hey seriously, does part of your job description include 'must attempt to demoralise GM dealership employees by any means possible' ?

Re: U.S. light vehicle sales, market share for May

Why are you laughing? GM is continuing to lose billions of dollars every quarter, while Toyota continues to rake in $$$ hand over fist.

Bottom line...sales "numbers" mean nothing if those sales aren't profitable.

At the end of the year, Toyota will post a multi-billion dollar profit (again) while GM will post a multi-billion dollar loss (again)...all the while blaming it on numerous "one time charges".

Re: U.S. light vehicle sales, market share for May

I notice it's June 14th and I have not seen a report from GM on May sales. I guess that is not a good sign.
