People sure suffer from short term memory loss. They'll soon be crying when gas hits $4 again.

Re: Trucks are big again, and other Oct. 2009 sales news -- w/top-20 sellers list

The Dodge Ram sells over 10,000 a month consistently, and they call that "not selling well".

The Silverado and F-Series consisently trade the top 3 spots in sales, and somehow that is spun into them "not being as popular as midsze sedans and cuvs".

This just gets more and more plum ridiculous all the time, now with lies and bizarre comments.

I betcha struggling automakers would LOVE to have the Ram's sales, and vehicles with the Silverado and F-Series numbers!

"short term memory loss?" You mean like certain folks NOT remembering that the Silvy, F-Series, and sometimes Ram were STILL in the top 10 during $4 a gallon gas?

Lighten up! As much as you have your opinion about full size trucks, others can make some very good arguments as to why we as a nation should begin to move away from them.

Trucks will certainly always have a place in the American vehicle landscape, but I live in a place where brainless teenagers with sideways hats drive lifted Silverados with exhaust around like they're corvettes. And trust me, it gets old. I have nothing but respect for a person that buys a truck and uses it for what it's meant to be used for. But for each of those theres someone that "needs" to use a lifted Excursion to commute down the 5 freeway alone at 95mph.

Wheres the Ranger, Colorado and Canyon on the list? Behind the Tacoma...has been for quite some time.

GM should focus on making a good midsize truck that gets excellent gas mileage yet can still tow around 3500#s. That would help level the playing the field.

We actually had a cookout at our dealership due to this lol (we had the preliminary reports, which usually arent off too bad). Hoping to have a steak dinner at the end of the year if GM is still in the green, i really have my salesmen working hard to get "sales sales sales" and there working hard. Im proud of them. Even if Gm is down alittle i think i will still treat them to a steak dinner cookout at the end of the year, theyve all earned it.

The margins on a compact/midsize pickups are nothing compared to margins on full-size ones. Toyota would love to swap Tacoma sales for Colorado's if they had the Tundra sell like the Silverado.

Having $6,000.00 cash on the hood didn't hurt either.

They're not going to sell 200K Tahoes with the Traverse doing over 100K units. Add 'em together and there's still 200K sales.

Hasn't the MSRP also gone up?

You are right. But those who panicked and dumped their Tahoe for a small car had buyers remorse after about two days and will not repeat that mistake again.

If you have stuff and a family....you NEED a family hauler not a cramped econobox.

I think even if Chevy wanted to sell Tahoes like they did in the early '00s, they are okay with the Traverse taking up the slack. I see those things all over the place where I live. I personally don't like them very much, but I've always felt that the FWD CUV's were pointless.

That is not always true. I will be hauling around my family in a Chevy HHR or a VW Golf starting in December. Both of those are small, compact vehicles and I have no need for anything larger. Both vehicles will swallow 3 adults and a car seat and a stoller and some other necessary gear with ease.

As stated before these statistics do not give an accurate picture at what the market looks like............

No full size pick up trucks are not as popular as mid sized sedans, mid sized sedans make up something like 17-18% of the total US market while full size pickups only make up about 10% of the total US market one would call that not as popular. As stated you have a choice of 5 full size pick-ups with 3 of them being low sellers (selling 10,000 units a month is a low selling relatively speaking). Mid sized sedans are more popular then full size pickups, compacts are more popular then full sized pickups, and I believe cross overs are also more popular then full sized pickups (even though the Ford and Chevy both saw a spike in sales following truck month incentives and compared to last year where gas prices were sky high). Its been proven that if you lower the price on these things they sell more.........

So yes if you are only going based on this list of top 20 selling vehicles it would seem as if full size trucks were the most popular vehicles in the US market. However if you look at the market as a whole you would know that this is the case of there being fewer full size truck choices then there are mid sized, compact, and cross over choices and as a result the sales are split between fewer vehicle in the full size truck market allowing for them to hit the top 2 spots last month. In other words if you spread all sales out evenly then the top would be mid sized second would be compacts third probably crossovers and fourth full size pickup trucks(or maybe third).

You are just clinging on to this one article and ignoring facts because its what you want to believe. You must know full well that after this month is over truck sales will drop down (compared to last month).

I completely agree that this isn't true, a wagon or a big car even a mid sized sedan can move a family around just fine.

Talking Re: Trucks are big again, and other Oct. 2009 sales news -- w/top-20 sellers list

Well.........there's one born everyday.........you know a sucker! My friend went looking for a Ford Ranger/Chevy Colorado/Dodge Dakota and came home with a Dodge Ram Hemi Quad Cab..........because for just a few more dollars he bought the big comfortable truck.........now a month later he wonders about what the hell he did.... especially since gas prices in our area went from $2.09 to now $2.75/gallon.
It's the American way.........always looking for a bargain! So, 0% for six years.........see you in 2015! Oh, but wait, in two years when gas is $4.00/gallon these cowboys will be back at the dealership trying to trade an upside down loan on a Chevy Cobalt or a four-banger Malibu. The really crazy ones will buy a Harley at $20K to save gas.........
On the other hand, if you want something that is reliable, comfortable, safe, then the Silverado is your thing. Just don't bitch when it won't fit in a parking space at Walmart!
GM sat on their thumbs worrying about the really big trucks and forgot that it doesn't have to rival a Kenworth to haul a sheet of plywood.
It's greeed on GM's part and just plain stupid on the consumers' part.........I'm still wating for a nice, midsize, reliable truck that tows 5000 pounds that fits in the garage, a Walmart parking space, and has a turning radius less than a ballfield.
