Re: Toyota US May Sales Up 14%; Overtakes Ford
Just incredible how well the Camry, Corolla, and especially the Prius is doing now. 24K Prius is a crazy amount for one month!! Tundra seems like it will be well on its way to hitting 200K. Numbers been increasing every month since introduction.
32K for Lexus!?! Thats damn near unheard of for a luxury brand. |

Re: Toyota US May Sales Up 14%; Overtakes Ford
Crazy how well the Corolla sells at this point in its life cycle...there really is no good reason to buy one over a Civic or a Mazda 3.
There really isn't any reason for these sales numbers to change anytime soon except to increase further. I don't think there is any stopping them, and I'm beginning to wonder if there is room for more than one of the Big Three.

Re: Toyota US May Sales Up 14%; Overtakes Ford
Toyota had a huge month, no doubt. Camry and Corolla were up big, with Camry taking on 50,000 sales, Corolla with 43,000. It makes me wonder if Toyota took on a bit of fleet?
Tundra did surprisingly well, and looks like it might get the 200,000 sales it was looking for. It doesn't seem to be taking any sales away from the domestics, though. Ram was even, GM was up about 10%, and F150 fell about as much as GM gained.

Re: Toyota US May Sales Up 14%; Overtakes Ford
50,000 Camrys? 45,000 Corollas? 24,000 Priuses? 17,000 Tundras? This has to stop.
Nice to see Toyota SUVs take a hit, including the Lexus versions. The Tundra is going to keep increasing all year. It'll overtake the Sierra and Ram by summer, and by the end of 2008 be scarily close to Sierra and F-150. Toyota sucks.

Re: Toyota US May Sales Up 14%; Overtakes Ford
Over 80% of Toyota/Scion brand cars are the Corolla, Camry and Pious. When the dust settles, Toyota is the biggest car company in the world because it makes: a high milage compact, a respectable mid-sized sedan and an econoPChybrid.
If Chevrolet responded in kind with a two-mode hybrid Cobalt, new Malibu and Volt, and put all of these side by side with their Toyota counterparts in every dealership and every advertisment, Toyota would be in a world of hurt.

Re: Toyota US May Sales Up 14%; Overtakes Ford
Lexus' older models got hit hard (LX, GS, SC). The new LX should be just around the corner... but I haven't heard much about the new GS and the new SC.
Toyota truck and SUV sales dropped most likely due to raising gas prices. Scion xA and xB sales dropped because they have been out of production for a while.

Re: Toyota US May Sales Up 14%, Prius, Tundra Shine; Overtakes Ford
They are unstoppable to say the least. Nothing GM does will be able to slow them down until the Volt or something similar shows and is available in volume. Only Toyota can sell 43k of a 6 year old car that is one of the dullest designs on the market. Aside from mpg the corolla doesnt have one advantage over the Cobalt and its whipping it in sales by 2 to 1.
If Toyota can maintain 50k sales a month for Camry they will approach 600k for the year. |

Re: Toyota US May Sales Up 14%, Prius, Tundra Shine; Overtakes Ford
The Corolla selling well against the Mazda3 and the Civic is very puzzling to driving enthusiasts. We like good handling, balance and performance. Corolla drivers care about A -> B in a reliable, economical comfortable manner. I could never buy a Corolla but for many people, it's an established product for decades now and the safe choice.
