I agree. I wouldn't buy one but believe that the Tundra styling is ahead of the ultra-conservative GMT-900 pickups from GM.

Those 10K engines should be built to last 300,000 miles, not 3,000 miles; that is just poor testing and probably an inferior product.
I think Toyota is aware that engines should be engineered to last 200K+ miles. They've been doing exactly that for decades now. Do you think they intentionally wanted one of their biggest product launches to have a defect at 3k miles?

Toyota had a problem with a supplier. Stuff like that can happen with a new product launch in the first year on a brand new platform. I believe in zero mistakes even in the 1st year, but with product launch cycles getting quicker and quicker, it happens.

Called marketing. which requires money. Which GM sorely needs. also, I think they didnt even need to put that much cash in, the trucks are well known.

Just imagine if Ford didn't mess up...

the 40% Mexican content part is false. It takes minimal research to find out the truth. Any trip to any Toyota store will show you that 75% of the content of the Tundra comes from the US and Canada. It's stated on the windows as required by law the same as the Silverado next door or F150 across the street.

Regarding the camshaft issue the first two paragraphs of the USA Today article say it all.
Quote:
Toyota said Tuesday that it has found in a handful of its much-hyped new Tundra pickups a defect that caused the engines to fail.
Toyota (TM) has reports of camshafts breaking in the 5.7-liter V-8 engines of about 20 Tundras so far. The flaw was due to a manufacturing defect by a subcontractor. All of the engines are being replaced.
A little research shows that it does end up being all of 20 units. What the public has found is that it's a non-issue that's been solved. So they are buying.
