Ford's U.S. sales plummeted 21 percent in September on a steep drop-off in car sales, while Toyota reported a 4 percent decline, according to results released Tuesday.

I think they predicted a 5% drop so pretty accurate.

Re: Toyota Sales Plummet 4 Pct in September

is there a reason why they dont show gm's 4% increase this month? oh, wait....

"Analysts have said that a drop in Toyota sales usually is a sign of a bad month for all automakers since the company had been showing increases during most months."

...there it is. hasn't toyota had a decrease for something like 3 months in a row now? with gm actualy putting out vehicles that people want, theyre having some good months. imagine that.

ford needs the new f-150 bad. really bad.

It is good to know that GM picked up the same amount that Toyota lost. I helped- delivered a Silverado to a guy that had been overpromised in every area by Toyota-

-21%.... WOW!

The market for automobiles is definitely going to take some big hits over the next few years with the housing market tanking and consumer spending plummeting. I think GM is well poised to weather the storm, if they continue to put out class-leading products.

GM's 4% gain is more than Toyota's 4% loss
GM is around 24% market share, Toyota is 14%

I could be wrong, but I think that "plummet" part was meant as a joke.

I thought it was funny, anyway.

Actually, I just copied and pasted the title and substituted Toyota for Ford and 4% for 21%. Laziness on my part

Re: Toyota Sales Plummet 4 Pct in September

21% is a pretty high decline in a such a short period of time. I thought the newly updated Taurus/X/Sable would have propped up sales a lil' until the new Focus came out. Oh well so much for optimism. Great news for Toyota though I believe perception is finally beginning to change and with the new Malibu right around the corner it's bound to get better!

Ouch on Taurus sales! Barely over half of what the Five Hundred sold last September- not good.

Re: Toyota Sales Plummet 4 Pct in September

I wouldn't get too excited about any 4% changes. That's random noise on a monthly basis.

Ford, on the other hand, isn't looking good. I've been sensing very little enthusiasm around the new "Taurus." Part of the reason is that they had huge incentives on the Five Hundred towards the end, up to $5,000 in rebates and dealer cash. The other might be that something always seems fishy when the same car gets a different name.

Re: Toyota Sales Plummet 4 Pct in September

I read a newspaper article about someone plummeting from a 6 ft porch. How do you "Plummet" 6 ft? Hmm.. when domestic automakers lose 4% it is a sign of the coming apocolypse. For import makers it is "noise."

It is actually 0.6% decline on an adjusted basis. Not too much to worry about. What is more important is YTD sales and not monthly sales.
