And Diahatsu has nothing to do with Scion, other than they are both owned by Toyota. Scion's current lineup is as follows: Scion xB, who's current version is a US-only vehicle. The previous version was a rebadge of the Japanese-market Toyota bB. The second generation of the bB was not carried over to the US market Scion xB. That second generation Toyota bB (which is totally different from the US market secopnd generation xB) has a rebadge Daihatsu, called the Materia. The previous version shared a platform and engine with the Toyota ECHO; the current version has the same engine as in a Camry and is sold in Japan under the Corolla family; the Toyota Corolla Rumion. Scion tC, which is also an unique US market coupe version of the European-market Toyota Avensis, again with the same engine as in the Camry. Scion xD, which is a US market version of the Toyota ist and shares a platform with the Toyota Yaris. It's similar to the discontinued xA, which shared a platform with the Toyota ECHO and previous xB. As far as I can tell, no Scion model is, or ever has been, a rebadge of any Diahatsu model. The only connection is that the second generation of a Toyota car has a Diahatsu rebadge when the first generation had a Scion rebadge. |

http://www.reuters.com/article/marke...0080112?rpc=44 FRANKFURT, Jan 12 (Reuters) - General Motors Corp (GM.N: Quote, Profile, Research), which is likely to have been supplanted by Toyota Motor Corp (7203.T: Quote, Profile, Research) as the world's largest carmaker last year, says quality is more important than production volume. GM would not "spend one dollar in order to be number one," global product chief Bob Lutz told industry newspaper Automobilwoche in an interview due to be published on Monday. "Good product quality, the company's image and the profit for shareholders are more important goals than the top position in volume." Toyota said on Thursday global vehicle sales rose 6 percent to 9.37 million units in 2007, almost certainly nudging out GM, which has not yet published full year figures but has been the biggest automaker in the world for decades. Lutz added that he did not intend to retire until the market launch of the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid in 2011 is underway. (Reporting by Christiaan Hetzner, Editing by Peter Blackburn) |
