As far as that 9.37 million goes well , it happened so ..... Good . Because this now means h 3-6 years out there will be approx 4.5 MILLION mildly disaffected to fully pissed off Toyota owners that will want something else . GM will be fully ready to help them OUT .

Re: Toyota global sales; 9.37 million vehicles for 2007
Well think about it. People criticize GM all the time for their failures simply because they are in the #1 spot. People feel that GM needs to set some sort of example for the rest of the industry. Now I'll admit that GM has had more failures than I care to count, but if toyota continues down the road it's going, they'll recall even more cars, their quality will continue to decline, and maybe, just maybe, being in the spotlight will make people sit up and realize that toyota isn't what everyone says it is.

And quite frankly, I don't care who's in the #1 spot, I'll drive GM until the day I die, and there's nothing toyota can do about it.

Re: Toyota global sales; 9.37 million vehicles for 2007
they sold almost a 1/4 of their cars in Japan, the one market GM has no real presence in. Take that away and GM still far outsells them. Imagine if America was as close minded as Japan, then maybe this story would've never existed. We're not allowed to touch their industry, but they can come in and destroy ours...

Re: Toyota global sales; 9.37 million vehicles for 2007
GM may lose the top spot temporarily, but the actions its taken in the last few years will give the company a shot at taking back the crown, rather than taking the short-term view, selling everything at big discounts and losses, and never be able to recover the crown again. GM's very strong and has beaten Toyota in 13 of 15 world markets (Australia and Japan go to Toyota), and especially in emerging markets. To add on to that, most of GM's world car and crossover platforms come due in the next couple of years, giving GM new bullets to use against Toyota where they've been the strongest. In addition to that, Toyota doesn't have very much room anymore to expand the product lineup of theirs, so I predict it won't be long before they're on the defensive.

You know it's not over yet, Toyota won the first quarter and GM won the next 2. GM still has a very good chance to still win if they beat or tie the 4th quarter then they win for 07.

Re: Toyota global sales; 9.37 million vehicles for 2007
They're showing cracks. If the yen finally starts appreciating, it would mean up to half of their profits would be gone. GM's doing better sales and profitwise in the rest of the world besides NA, AUS, and JP. The USD is finally depreciating some, and this puts GM in a good position, as well as the fact that they should be in a very good financial shape as they expand outside the US and the UAW concessions start showing.

'Somebody' better check Toyotas numbers - if it were me I'd be looking real careful at things like Subaru etc where they have 'partial interests' - worldwide.
Time will tell.

The figures exclude Subaru and ISUZU since their stake at those two companies are less than 50%. Figures include sales from TOYOTA, LEXUS, SCION, DIHATSU, and HINO. Although by end of this year Toyota might actually buy a majority stake at SUBARU. That will allow them to include Subaru sales figures. |
