Re: October 2009 Ford Sales: Up 3%

FWIW, Ward's has the actual market share based on total sales (link):
Code:
		Oct Oct % Share
		2009 2008 Reported	Year-Ago

Chrysler	65,511 94,042 7.8 11.3
Ford 134,838 129,405 16.1 15.5
GM 176,662 168,785 21.1 20.2
Honda 85,502 85,864 10.2 10.3
Nissan 60,115 56,947 7.2 6.8
Toyota 152,165 152,101 18.2 18.2
Looks like everyone is grabbing share from ChryCo.

Whatever I said, the number quoted was total vehicles sold.

Oh wow! Do fp115 was right after all . . . Ford's market share was 16.1 higher than what Pipas said . . . . fluff, a lot of it.

Real facts, and real numbers are so much less interesting than made up numbers, and fantasy.

Geez Simon, I would think you would get that.

The hell is going on here?

I mean this thread, not Ford's sales results.

This proves exactly what I said. That Ford made an assumption based on fluff and tried to go on with it. Most of the other automakers said "estimated" but Ford said it was the actual number.

I thought Ford had all this data Simon and Wescoent

Just fp having a hard time digesting the idea that Ford is doing things right. Not much else.

Much ado about nothing.

Maybe - maybe not.

Eh, it is not exactly clear and is most definitely dependent on interpretation - and future results.

Which leads to the reality that once you take out the F Series, the Fusion, the Escape, and the Focus -

Unfortunately, Ford and certain 'proponents' of Ford are in annoying fashion beginning to sound an awful like Toyota and their 'boosters' etc.

Oh well, I guess you can say that, but only if you chose to ignore the fact that the current Taurus has been only two month in the market . . .

I guess some of you will never forgive Ford for . . . GM having had to go bankrupt . . . weird!

Re: October 2009 Ford Sales: Up 3%

6,000 Taurus sales don't seem too impressive. Wasn't the Five Hundred doing like 10-12,000 a month for a while?

Are you thinking of the old fleetster Taurus? 500 never sold worth beans.

Compared to the current (large premium sedan) competition, Ford is likely quite happy with the results:

Ford Taurus: 6,076
Nissan Maxima: 4,593
Buick LaCrosse: 3,228
Chrysler 300: 2,914
Toyota Avalon: 2,539

Re: October 2009 Ford Sales: Up 3%

Again, maybe - maybe not or if you prefer, it could "yes" & "not quite" & " - gulp, nope ".

Vcs2600 certainly gives a strong indication of the "yes" part.

However........all things considered the new LaCrosse with the smaller total number is quite possibly more impressive and there is the way Ford set up the reporting to consider ie deliberately incomplete - when considered in the light of their 12.5% retail market share.

To see this possible concern consider -

Quote:
* All-new Ford Taurus sales totaled 6,076, up 141 percent versus a year ago. Dealers reported retail sales nearly tripled year-ago levels.
Now determine the actual number of units retailed and the number fleeted.

Here, also from the report you will want Taurus volume s -

6,076 2009

2,517 2008

Your cryptic messages don't make sense are getting old and frankly are not as interesting as you think.

You have no idea what was the Taurus retail v. fleet sales ratio but for the sake of arguing what you don't know you are assuming they were very lopsided towards fleets. Well, when you begin with wrong assumptions you end with crappy conclusions. Ford has been lowering production and thus not shoving unwanted large sedans down the fleet buyers throats for a few years now so tripling retail is huge especially when you consider that the sales jump was 141% and not 300%

I find funny and nonetheless pathetic how people like you and a few other can't forgive Ford for . . . GM's bankruptcy. Believe me, it was all GM's doing Ford had NOTHING to do with it.
