Yes? awesome! woo hoo!!
No? Oh well then the 3% is meaningless.
You're right.

Being that your dear Cadillac megeebee up to the end of September had suffered a slump of -43.6%, forgive my life if I think that Lincoln's -26.9% is not all that bad considering. Also, both of you, be gracious and show me some clemency if I am happy that Ford posted yet again another sales gain this month (what like the 4th out of the last 5?) and if I feel somehow relieved that my favorite American car company announced yesterday a profit of almost $1 billion for the 3rd quarter of 2009.

I am weak and really can't help to see these facts and positive signs. I know you know better and they are really signs of impeding doom, but I just can't see them that way.

My apologies . . . (too bad there is not a mid finger salute smiley, but I am sure you can picture one here . . . )
You feeling OK, Bud?

No point getting your emotions all mixed up in the MKS's sales figures.

You're obviously pained, so I won't even mention that no one brought up the Mustang, Camaro, or Cadillac brand in the posts you quoted, so your comment was slightly out of left field. But if you weren't pained, I would have said it.

Re: October 2009 Ford Sales: Up 3%

Conference call details:
Ford(F Quote) said October sales rose 3%, while its market share rose for the 12th time in the past 13 months.

The automaker said October sales totaled 136,920, up 3% from the low base of October 2008 and up 21% from September 2009, also a low base because the Cash for Clunkers program drew sales ahead to August. October was the third time in the last four months that Ford sales have increased. However, year-to-date sales show a 20.4% decline from 2008 levels.

The company's October market share was more than 15%. "The Ford plan is working, led by the strength of our product lineup and customer demand for our new cars, utilities and trucks," said Ken Czubay, vice president for marketing, in a prepared statement.

When you can't refute an argument, set up a straw man, and attack that instead. Very typical.

How on earth can you know what your market share is until the other companies post their sales numbers?

That seems baffling to me!

Sometimes, some people need some reference for context.

Emotional? . . . cute. Facts have no emotions.

Oh well, the ones that seem to have a problem with Ford pulling out of the ditch are the ones that are going to have to deal with whatever those problems are.

I will just relax, seat back and have my fun. Ta-ta!

There is nothing to refute. What they were saying was right. I was just giving some context with one argument that has been thrown at me a thousand times and that is the state of the economy. Every time I mention that these fantastic sales of the Camaro are not even half of what sales of the Mustang were in 2004, people tell me that is the economy's fault, why can't I say the same thing here where its also true. Also referencing the much deeper sales slump for Cadillac is called for to give context to the Lincoln's situation debated here.

Like they don't know. All it takes is to know how many cars where sold in the month to know your share. And they have that number.

Right, so if GM, Honda, Toyota,... never say how many cars they sold, how do you get the total number? This is just Ford trying to be overjoyed with their numbers and will only come back to bite them in the ass. Where would Ford get this number from? Hack other systems?

Ford likely guessed this number and spun it like they have for the rest of their results. There is nothing stunning these results, at least not to someone who can actually read past the headlines.

This is a joke!

(PR departments share their numbers before drawing up press releases... happened early this morning.)

Again, I call BS. It makes even less sense for every company to call up Ford and tell their numbers.

Will any other Ford apologist try to come up with a reason other than Ford guessing what the market is like right now?

Re: October 2009 Ford Sales: Up 3%

I really don't care where any of these companies are vis a vis last year, last month or whatever. All that matters is are they selling cars at a profit. If so, then there's hope. If not, then they're not long for this world in this market.

Ford showed a profit and it's on the right track. Can it keep the profits up and pay down the loans it has on its books? Hopefully.

So whether a given car is up or down is totally immaterial. Is Ford overall profitable or not? That's what counts.

Again, I'd rather see Ford (or GM) sell fewer cars profitably than sell boatloads unprofitably. In the end, well built cars sold at a profit is what will bring Ford and GM back. Here's to hoping they're both on the right path.

No... it helps so everyone can write up their releases accurately for later in the day.

Why is this so unbelievable?
