Why are you guys making GM build trucks they can't sell?

Based on todays announcement of 4 factory closings, including the truck plant in Oshawa where I live, it does seem like the sky is falling. While I do not personally work at GM, a lot of my friends do and they do not have a job at the end of next year.

The Tahoe hybrid costs nearly 3 times as much as a 4cyl Camry, for that kind of money give me an X5 or something.

WHAT?!?!?!?!? They are only 50k What's the deal?
Only 50K! HA! And they still only get 20 mpg, either on the highway or in town. If I needed it for cargo hauling or towing, that would be one thing. However when I replace the current 2001 Tahoe that I now have, I want something that gets better than 20 mpg. With two kids nearing college age, the cost of living, the lack of a pay raise . . . I think a new 50K - 20 mpg vehicle is a little out of the question.

GM's May sales were down 30%!!!! It's over for them. Most of their cars are flops or uncompetitive.

This is correct. The days of $3.00/gallon gas are over. If the price of oil goes down to $1.00/barrel, they'll think of some other reason to keep the prices where they are (Alien beings from another planet demanding money for the oil or we'll be blasted into extinction - or anything along those lines).

That may sound ridiculous - but the world is ridiculous.

It's that kind of unrealistic hope-against-hope that got Chrysler into the mess it's in....GM and Ford to a lesser extent. Why would you want to contribute to outdated hopes? Why not just deal with the situation in front of you. China and India are just going to suck up all the excess oil in the world for the foreseeable future. No matter what we do the prices are going to European levels.

Only when massive alt-fuel production starts will we begin to see some relief. Why hide from this data? Why not just deal with it?

You're telling me, I started out looking at fullsize trucks because of all the money on the hood, when gas eclipsed 3.50, I switched to looking for smaller vehicles and decided on a aptriot. Between 3 local dealerships I found 4, 2 had 2 each and 1 had none. Waited a week, went back and the 2 others dealers had 1 each, ended up getting a leftover 07 with the 4xd and a 5 speed stick.
