I'm unable to locate YTD sales for the industry, though the Accord is off by just 3.9%; it's a reasonable bet to assume the industry as a whole is off by more, and the Accord again picked up share. Not surprising. It's a nice car, though, of course, you won't see me in one.
GM's results have nothing to do with my point. The Accord is an all new car that has had time to ramp. If it were well accepted, Honda would be enjoying significant sales increases. Especially considering the bajillion Accord TV commercials that I've seen.

Soon...very soon. I doubt current models are still being shipped to dealers. Although there seems to be a ton of 2008s in our new car inventory.

So, let's see....Accord/Camry/Altima sales: almost 108K. Malibu/G6/Aura sales: a little over 36K.

Epic fail.
Wow, that's a totally valid comparison.

Accord 36k
Camry 41k
Altima 31k
Fusion/Milan/MKZ 23k
Taurus/Sable 9k
Impala/LaCrosse/Grand Prix 33k
Malibu/G6/AURA/9-3 38.5k

Is it a valid comparison...as you can see, the domestics are fighting for sales among themselves...they aren't stealing any of Honda's/Nissan's/Toyota's sales.

Instead of 3 different Ford midsize cars, just build one great one.

Instead of 4 different GM midsize cars, just build one or two great ones.

No, I don't see that. I see everyone fighting for everyone else's sales (such is business) and I see GM's midsize offerings in total outselling everyone else.

Even more importantly what you fail to see is the following:

Camry/Accord/Altima = Billions in profits.
Domestics 12 midsize put together = losing money.

Amazing how few people on GMI realize that the only goal here it to make a PROFIT. Even if the domestic 12 outsell the import 3 by a 10000 to 1 ratio, if they lose money in the process - it doesn't matter!

Oh, I realize that, but we're talking sales numbers here. Cut out the remaining ~78,000 welfare cases and, boom, GM makes a profit. Unfortunately, upon muttering the word "profit", 78,000 hands open up, waiting for a payout.

Re: March 2008 Sales - Everyone else

Profit on compact cars makes up a relatively small portion of the price paid by the customer. What is really being paid for (and what goes to prop the GDP of this or that country) are components, raw materials, assembly/processing (of the raw materials, components and final car), other fixed costs (real estate etc.), logistics, marketing (big bucks, and American marketing money is bound to be spent in America) and finally the dealer's compensation in this form or another.

Why Michigan is sinking though? Well, the post said Ohio for Honda....

If you're including the MKZ and 9-3, why not include the ES, IS, TSX, TL, and G35?

If you're including the Taurus, Sable, Impala, LaCrosse, and Grand Prix, why not include the Avalon, Maxima, Lucerne, and G8?

No need to think again... it's a 4.2 % increase when adjusted for the number of selling days. (I believe everyone reports sales this way... I know Ford and GM both do).

As a matter of fact, this March 2008 has been the best March ever for Hondas sold per selling day.

Not bad for a "difficult year"... beating your all-time sales record!

Anyone needs further proof that a lineup of fuel-efficient, well-designed, appealing small cars is a winning bet nowadays?

Right... your comparison, which includes Lincoln's Fusion (MKZ) but excludes Acura's Accord (TSX) or Lexus's Camry (ES350), is much more fair.

Considering both Malibu + Impala, and both Fusion + Taurus, then comparing them to the Camry alone (ignoring the Avalon) is also the most valid way to look at things... no doubt.
