Glad to see the uptick. Sorry to see, however, that Regal is in the dumper. I am wondering if the success of Verano has destroyed sales of the Regal? Too bad, Regal is a great ride...

Ram is breathing down Silverado's neck pretty hard. The revamped trucks can't get here soon enough!

Re: Industry Reports November 2012 Sales

Be interesting to see the balance of industry sales, I expect Honda/Toyota to be up as they regain from the floods, etc.

I would expect that Regal is down so much due to the Verano and that GM management expected it. I'd be interested to see what GM expected and if this decline is in line with that expectation. Similar with the ATS eating into the CTS. Of course we will never see such internal projections.

Does anyone know what was going on with GM last year to give context to their numbers? Was November last year a strong month for GM or a weak one, etc?? And why?

And I can now see why GM is pulling up the Malibu refresh. No change in sales volume over the old one last year.

Looks like you've got Ford's September numbers, not the November numbers.

Between Ram and Silvy, there is a 100,000 truck cushion, and add the Sierra to the Silverado that heightens the gap to 242,000 trucks. Granted that isn't the biggest gap, but still, 100,000 trucks. Also, the F-Series gang is at 576,000, a huge lead! Being the oldest of the three, the GM trucks can't complain at being second, and I would imagine a jump in sales when new trucks come out.

It is interesting to look at Jeep and see what people are choosing between the Compass and Patriot. I think, if the rumors of the Cherokee making a come back are true, Jeep will have a hit. I know I would choose the more traditional Patriot over the Compass.
I hope the replacement for the two is styled more to the Patriot, and if the Cherokee comes back to replace the Liberty, they don't mess with success.

This Silverado was a design disaster since day 1 in my book. The flared bed, fenders and 3 piece bumper... Just a mess. Combine the poor exterior design with the lackluster interiors and you have what we see here. When Dodge brought out the new/current Ram in 2009, it was obvious they had something to rival Ford with in terms of design execution, interiors and build quality. The current Silverado has been giving away customers to Ford and Dodge from the beginning. The problem with the new Silverado is it appears to be more of the same from the spyshots. Let's say though that in 10 days we find out it's mindblowing in terms of build quality, exterior design execution, interior packages and all. What happens when the new Dodge comes out next year and then the Ford? Chevrolet better be all over this truck to keep it updated. Once you lose customers, it's nearly impossible to get them back. Neither Ford nor Dodge will let their trucks slip. I haven't bought a new truck since 1998 because I have been let down by the quality, exterior design and interiors of the Silverado since the GMT800 came out. If Chevrolet picks up where they left off at the end of the GMT400's like I have, they can at least count on guys like me for a new truck purchase. Some of us haven't jumped ship just yet.. We're just not buying what they're selling.

Also, one cannot combine sales of 2 brands to rival 1 brand from another company. If the Cruze was getting outsold by the Focus, one cannot just toss the sales of the Verano on top of it to boost segment numbers and say "Hey, it's all GM". It doesn't work that way. If Chevrolet gets outsold by Ford and Dodge, the are getting outsold by Ford and Dodge period. You don't bring in a second backup truck to boost your numbers. Ford and Dodge don't need a second backup truck. Either Chevrolet stands on it's own this next go round, or it doesn't stand a chance at all.

Considering all of the marketing muscle behind the ATS, as well as the numerous positive media reviews of the car, GM can't be thrilled that the ATS only managed to move 2,152 units, below the XTS and CTS.

I still think they made two mistakes with the car:

    1. Not coming in with a base price of around $30K.
    2. Not making the 2.0L turbo the standard engine (and skipping the 2.5 NA completely)

ATS has been on sale for three months. They built a little over 6k last month so that number should move up nicely next month as inventory continues to grow.

Well, we'll see. Let's talk a month from now. If the ATS cracks 3,000 in December, I'll be very surprised.
