What's really irritating is when sales are down the media jumps all over it telling their audience it's because of gas prices. Well gas isn't down right now, so what is bringing their sales up?

Escalade sales are flat for the year, Tahoe is down for the year, and Yukon is down for the year. The September comparisons are probably up because of a good firesale.

September last year wasn't very strong at all, in 2005 GM's sales were in a downslide. I believe it was at the beginning of October 2005 when delphi filed for chapter 11. That's enough to impact year over year sales.

Brand new black CTS in the parking lot at work this morning. I'm trying to figure out who it belongs to. Black is seriously hot on that car. I guess that sale will be recorded for October though.

since Gm is supposed to be doing poorly due to its gas guzzling lineup it would be nice to hear the analysts explain this. Since Toyota has the 2nd most green lineup and has been praised for being on top of consumer trends it seems odd their sales are down for the last few months. Toyota has gotten so big that they are now having trouble maintaining sales increases on a monthly basis.

Not as good as 4.4% but I'll take it.

Great job GM. I read somewhere that YTD Toyota sales are up about 3.8% compare to 06. Anyone know GM's YTD sales figure compare to 06 ?

GM's been getting good press recently. I imagine more people are willing to walk into a Chevy dealership now. And when they get there the Cobalt looks pretty good.

Even with government subsidies (in Japan) Toyota will eventually have to deal with being an Automotive giant - in many ways they now have to deal with the same presures that GM has been dealing with for decades now. It will be interesting to see how they respond. I predict more price cutting on their products - especially the Tundra.

My current ride - 2004 Mazda6s - V6 with a five speed manual. GM forced me to the competition because they didn't offer a midsize sedan with a V6 and manual transmission.

Re: GM September sales up 4 percent

Wow, that's really good news.

The expectation was that most (if not all) manufacturers would see a drop in sales.

Especially considering that there was not too many on the lot this month and most orders take 8+ weeks from production start up.

I agree, look for more incentives. Toyota doesnt like sales declines even if they are still doing well overall. The press and the company expects constant marketshare gains. I think thats the most important thing here- thier marketshare increases are stalling. It may not be easy to reverse that with GM, Hyundai and others coming on strong these days. If Ford and Chrysler get their acts together in a few years things could get much tougher for Toyota. They are lucky Ford and Chrysler are much further behind GM when it comes to competitive product.
