Re: GM September 2008 sales

More spin after another crappy month...even with employee pricing. October is going to be ugly now that GM has had 2 straight months of employee pricing deals...they probably pulled ahead a lot of buyers.

Re: GM September 2008 sales

Just curious...Did Chevy sell 19K Malibus last month because of the market, or because that's all they can manufacture right now ?

down 16% with employee discount. So even when they are giving away cars they are still down. And they are proud of this. WOW. Just wait until next month when there is no employee discount and all people that needed cars purchased them what will happen with gm sales. They are killing them self with this employee discount.

Down 16% is much better than Ford's down 34%...but yes, this is still terrible.

My current ride - 2004 Mazda6s - V6 with a five speed manual. GM forced me to the competition because they didn't offer a midsize sedan with a V6 and manual transmission.

Re: GM September 2008 sales

GM fared better than Ford this month...

At least GM's loss is par with overall market decline.

Seems luxury and specialty cars are being the hardest hit. Evaporating lease offers are no doubt contributing to this.

Things look bleak.

It looks to be better than the industry as a whole, way better than Ford. We will need to see how the others manufacturers will do, but I suspect GM will be one of the automotive bright spots for September....

Re: GM September 2008 sales

Well considering that we are in a recession, this is not that bad. I was surprised GM sold like 50K silverados.

Re: GM September 2008 sales

Congrats to GM - But they really worked to get these sales.

Case in point:

My Dad purchased a 2008 Chevy Impala LT last week.

List Price: $ 25,595.00

GM Employee Price For Everyone Price: $ 23,383.63

GM Lease-2-Buy Incentive: $ 2,000.00

GM Card Exemption: Granted under bonus program.

GM Card Redemption: $ 3,000.00

GM Card Loyalty Bonus: $ 500.00

GM Impala Rebate: $ 2,750.00

GM Dealer Incentive: $ 1,000.00 (Four coupons @ $250 each).

Net price (not including tax, registration or fees): $ 14,133.63

But wait, there's more:

GMAC Pull-Ahead Program: 2 Payments @ $ 473.60 each = $ 947.20.

Note: He purchased before lease end due to the Employee Discount Plan and the GM Card Redemption Exemption/Bonus program, plus the fact that he had maxed out on his allowed mileage.

What a deal.

Re: GM September 2008 sales

Was there a supply problem with the CTS for September, or did everyone who wanted one get theirs in August? Down 32%...did not expect that.

EDIT: someone just mentioned it...leasing problems might have something to do with it.

Re: GM September 2008 sales

The press release sounded pretty promising....until you viewed the actual data. I wonder how many more people tried to buy, but were rejected financing?

Re: GM September 2008 sales

At the Chevy website, the interest rates with employee pricing are above 5%.

Employee pricing with 0% loans is very bad.
Employee pricing with 5% or 7% loans isn't a problem.

Re: GM September 2008 sales

I don't think it is fair to comment on GM's poor performance until other companies are available for comparison. Yes, we all wish GM would have done better. Considering the current economic state, the best GM can hope for is to hold or gain on their share of the market.

I'll disagree with that...employee pricing plus 0-percent financing was able to get me into a new GTO 2 years ago and kept me out of a Rustang.

Re: GM September 2008 sales

The sale worked.

In an absolute sense .... while the results are bound to be disappointing - doubly so when profit margins are added in, this is a great job of GM making the best of a very bad situation

The market share improvement is an almost unbelievable accomplishment compared to the last 4 months or so - and is highly significant.
