No surprises for GM - but what happened to Honda? Down 7.8%...

These % changes are misleading, as not all automakers are reporting sales on a day-rate basis.

I think Honda is hurting as thier bread and butter car the Accord is 4 years old while the Camry is all new.

Expect Honda to be up big time next year whey they bring in the class leading Accord.

Toyota being up month after month by double digits is just amazing. Congradulations - like them or hate them you have to respect what they are doing.

I am amazed sales are this low for GM.

Last year sales dropped off dramatically in September and people blamed the summer employee discounts. This year they are down even further...guess the employee discounts weren't the problem after all?

I was dating a girl and she wanted me to drive her '99 Corolla. The car itself was awful, it shook more than my old '86 Mercury Lynx; it was just the worst car I had driven since an old mid 80's Rabbit a friend of mine had. I had been in Camry's and they are not half bad, but this Corolla was the biggest piece. It is a shame that the Vibe has Corolla DNA, it's a shame people in the country can't support their own kind to buy an inferior product.

I wonder how well the Civic is selling. Friends that swore by Civics aren't that enthusiastic about it.

I drove the corolla based Vibe and Matrix both.

For what they are intended to be, I think they are both great cars. I also owned a 2003 cavalier and put 50,000+ miles on it. Even though I owned the Cavalier, in no way would I say the Corolla and it's derivitives are inferior products.

The Competition: Toyota Beats Domestics in Sept. Sales

Toyota Trounces U.S. Automakers in September Sales

DETROIT (AP) -- Toyota Motor Corp. trounced the domestic automakers in the U.S. marketplace last month, posting a 25 percent year-over-year sales increase. General Motors Corp. and DaimlerChrysler AG each saw their sales slip by a few percentages points, while Ford Motor Co.'s sales gained 4.7 percent.

GM's sales fell 3.1 percent last month, but the nation's largest automaker put a positive spin on the decline, attributing it to a reduction in low-margin sales to rental companies. The company's car sales fell 6.4 percent, while trucks, including pickups and sport utility vehicles, were down 0.7 percent. The numbers include the European Saab brand.

I have driven several Corollas, I've often wondered why people like them. The only other car that I owned that was as poor a daily driver as the 'Rollas was my old Ford Tempo. I thought the Corollas had buzzy motors, crappy handling on the skinny tires and wheels (not to mention braking, too) and a ride that could give a statue a backache. I have a '95 Sunfire GT with 225/17/45 aspect tires that ride better than a Corolla. Owww.

The Camry's are nice cars. In fact I think it's the only car they do well, but not well enough for me to give them money. Most folks do not consider the Malibu Maxx competition for the Camry, but I prefer the ride (and room!) of the Maxx.

I'm not going to sweat the apparent downturn in sales, these things change from month to month. It seems there's much new product in the pipeline and for GM and others. Let's see what happens after that is all released.
