Re: GM Sales UP In August !!

I love how everyone balks at fleet sales. This is GM's home market, of course they are going to have more fleet sales than import brands. What kind of fleet cars do you think sell in Japan? Grand Prix? Malibu? Uplander?

Last month it was reversed; more Tundras were sold than Sierras. I believe Toyota lowered thier incentives and GMC raised them for August, hence the change.

Exactly,

Toyota had to have rebates to outsell a domestic product. Something that they have been very reluctant to do in the past.

If they cannot meet their sales goals this year, it will be a huge plus for GM.

The explication is simple. No one was expecting GM to start dumping outdated models massively into fleets for August. (Just look at which models are up for Aug.)

If any automaker decides that they suddenly want to give away their cars, of course they'll "prove analysts wrong" big time for that particular month. Anyone can do it. Doesn't mean it's a good thing...

Re: GM Sales UP In August !!

In my area Toyota seems to be doing an advertising blitz (wonder if in response to lower sales numbers?). Billboars EVERYWHERE, touting fuel economy and showing the whole lineup. Kind of in vain though, no one gets some of the stuff they're saying like "There's no E in Toyota". What's up with that? No one gets it! (And neither do I!) LOL.

Re: GM Sales UP In August !!

I have noticed many times on this forum, where the kool-aid drinkers like to compare GM to the previous month when it fits their agenda. Where are they now? The tundra dropped like a rock in August when compared to July.

Hardly. The Tundra still sold almost 19K units in August. Keep in mind Tundra incentives dropped AND Sierra/Silverado incentives went up at the same time in August.

Which company's trucks had the higher incentives in August? Even with Toyota incentives dropping a bit and GM incentives going up a bit, I'm betting, without evening looking, that the Tundra still has higher overall incentives.

It does you little good to make excuses that Tundra got outsold because it's incentives dropped while the GM products' went up, if the month being compared still has higher incentives on the slower-selling truck!
