Yup, check out those Uplander numbers, up 28% when almost everything else based on a car isn't.

I am guessing this is them loosing truck market share back to GM, as GM's car sales dipped 8%.
Looks like 18,919 Tundras sold in August.

Very astute analysis.
Malibu down 25% for the year..but suddenly this month it's even with last year;
G6 down 9% for the year..but suddenly this month sales are up 2% over last year;
Grand Prix down 13% for the year..but suddenly this month sales are up 11% over last year.

Are the outgoing models suddenly so attractive? Probably not, but if you have to do a fleet dump this is one of the best times to do it.

Yeah, good observation. And the Grand Prix was up 11.2%. I used to use that one pretty much as a proxy when their fleet/retail transparency wasn't as good as it is now. But yeah, there aren't a ton of Siennas all of a sudden piling up on Chevy lots all of a sudden.

Please, the only cars besides aura that were up a significant percentage were G5 and Grand Prix, cars that we already know go to fleets.

Uplanders may sell a lot of fleet, but not to daily rental companies. More likely regular (profitable) fleet buyers.

Daily rental sales did not increase based on what I am reading into the chart.

Otherwise, car sales would not be down so much.

WOW, without the Tundra and Prius, Toyota would be done fore. Look how much the Yaris is tanking and the corolla is down over 20%.

Scion fell flat on it's face too, yeah they have no product but still every car is down almost 30 percent.

No that is not it. Grand prix is up that is what 80% fleet car, G6 is up that is fleet car, Impala is unchanged that is a fleet car, uplander is up 28% that is a fleet car. Cobalt is up that is a fleet car. HHR is up that is another big fleet car, and nox was up that is another big fleet car. So prbably what happened this month gm increased their fleet sales and that is how they got these numbers. GM car sales are just very bad, most of them are just fleet. GM still has alot of work to do.

Re: GM Sales UP In August !!

what happened to all the talk of the Tundra beating the Sierra in sales? it happened one month and people were going crazy talking about how GM's trucks were half ass and what not. Now look at the results. You cannot let one month define a "trend". Toyota is going to have a hard time sustaining the high volume of Tundras they sold earlier in the year. Look for more incentives soon.

Almost EVERY Toyota car was down in August in spite of the fact that people supposedly buy Toyota due to fuel economy. Avalon and Yaris sales do not look good at all, the avalon continues to be outsold by Lucerne in spite of far superior fuel economy.

No question about that, but they are selling lot vehicles that help the bottom line more than the cars do, it will halp funnel money to those cars,
and they are not ignoring the car market but the contrary, elp II can't get here fast enough.

But the Aura and Malibu will do just fine until world class replacements arive. Plus the Impala makes money and resale value of the new model
is nuch higher than the last one.

this is all good news, lets hope it becomes a trend for the future

Daily rental sales did not increase based on what I am reading into the chart.

Otherwise, car sales would not be down so much.
*Aura sales are around 25% fleet.

*DTS, a fleet queen, down 13.9% for the year but nearly flat this month.

*Malibu in a nosedive by more than 25% this year but nearly flat this month.

*Equinox also diving by almost a quarter this year, but UP 13% this month.

*HHR on a gentle decline all year then spikes 50% this month.

*Lambda sales are still pretty underwhelming and are failing to ramp up strongly.

LaNeve pointed out "year to date" declines in rental sales, but based on the sudden spikes in some of GM's lamest products, combined with a jump in sales of products that are known to be very heavy fleet (GP almost 75%), this month's anomaly of GM bucking the industry trend seems to be a massive fleet dump.

I've seen lots of Silverados running around with Enterprise plate frames lately too, although that's a tough one because nearly all non-SUV GM products in LA are fleet, based on casual observation.

Combine the fleet flurry with GM's newfound heavy GMT900 incentives to match the Tundra and we're right back to 2005. Giving away the metal to prop up the quarter's number.

yeah, but im ok with that. if the old malibu and the grand prix are mostly fleet so be it. the same with the uplander (hopefully chevy is getting a lambda minivan)- as long as the new malibu isnt. the g6 shouldnt be fleet tho. but im sure the introduction of 0% on the trucks is what sparked the increases for them- can guarantee there were people holding out for it. if theyre doing things like that, its ok, because everyone else is doing the same. its not the same if gm is offering high rebates when noone else is. and this is the most important part of the whole article:

"Customers are also recognizing the quality of GM products. A recent study ranked Buick number one (tied with Lexus) in vehicle dependability. Another customer service survey has every GM brand above the industry average score -better than Toyota, Mercedes-Benz, Chrysler, Ford and Land Rover. "The myth of import superiority is being destroyed. In countless independent consumer surveys, blogs and expert reviews, it is becoming increasingly evident that we build the highest quality vehicles and deliver them with world-class service," LaNeve noted."
