That's a funny quote from the jalopnik link.

Ford took a hit though.

But then the all mighty Toyota was slightly down too.

Re: GM Sales UP In August !!

Wow, GMC moved almost 23,000 Sierra's last month. Does anyone know how that compared with the Tundra for August.

Also, 26% market share for the month while still lowering fleet sales is a huge accomplishment.

Also, CNN is reporting that Toyota lost market share this month, and saw a net loss of total vehicles sold.

I am guessing this is them loosing truck market share back to GM, as GM's car sales dipped 8%.

This is good. It is about time. What i am worried about is GM car sales down 7.8%, what this means gm is depending more and more on suvs and trucks and that is no good. Hopefully car sales will go up soon. If gm can get their car sales to go up, then gm would be in very good shape but depending to much on suvs and truck to drive your sales is very dangeres.

As long as the Aura continues to gain sales, albeit slowly, month over month, then it should be ok.

I personally wasn't expecting the Aura to jump out to 10,000 a month after abandoning the mid-size car segment for 2 years.

Re: GM Sales UP In August !!

Wow! Awesome! While big numbers of huge-profit vehicles like the fullsize trucks and SUVs are important, I also like seeing stable or increasing numbers with vehicles like the G6, HHR, Equinox, and Aveo. The Aura is creeping ever slowly to that 100,000 a year rate. The fact that it's certainly got a low fleet percentage is a bit of comfort. The Malibu had an okay month, as did the Cobalt. SRX still deserves to do better.

Overall, still soft in spots, but the Lambdas are doing excellent... hit the switch on the new Malibu GM! Get it out NOW! They need the new G8 and updated Vibe to help out Pontiac. Whohoo! I'm all excited now!

While loosing car market share is not ideal, gaining overall market share and taking a lot of truck sales away from the competition is a good thing.

If they can keep up the pressure and keep toyota from selling their projected number of Tundra, that will be a huge victory.

Re: GM Sales UP In August !!

I find it disconcerning that this is the first month of the year GM is not posting retail and fleet sales eparately... I smell fleet relapse.

I have no doubt Gm did better than Ford's 13% decline in retail, but I am worried the fact that all of fleet reduction mention was reduced to "double digit for the year" means that GM abandoned some of the fleet reduction targets ..

It is also possible Ford is being sore loser, like GM was in the past, highlighting the Fleet reduction to mitigate the aparent effect of the overall and retail sales decline.

That's probably where you're seeing the decreased fleet sales.

The quick way to see if GM had a fleet relapse would be to look at Grand Prix, G6, Malibu and Impala sales. If anyone of them had some unexpected jump in sales then we know that there was a fleet dump. However they aren't dumping the Lambdas and GMT900's into fleets.

Re: GM Sales UP In August !!

Careful. It was a decent month, and great in that it did not fall off a cliff. But fleet sales (primarily daily rental) were up dramatically... over 20%. A one-month "blip" that Ballew did not at first want to reveal. The headline pretty much gave it away, though. Consensus was down 5.9% and they came in at +5.

Not taking anything away, it was a good month, especially in full-size pickups. But the headline figure needs to be put in context.

Re: GM Sales UP In August !!

I have a feeling the lambdas are headed towards sales numbers close to Tahoes and Yukons, throw in the Chevy version and you will be over 20,000 vehicles a month, The Delta Township plant can build more than 120,000 vehicles a year

As good as this is, anyone want to bet it won't make the national news? I am for slow, but steady, sales progress rather than a quick gainer that suddenly falls off. Keep up the good work, GM!
