GM sales drop in May

http://biz.yahoo.com/rb/060601/autos_sales_gm.html?.v=7

DETROIT (Reuters) - General Motors Corp. (NYSE:GM - News) said on Thursday that U.S. sales fell in May, driven by a big slump in car sales, which offset a slight increase in demand for its new line of sport utility vehicles.

The world's largest automaker sold 345,157 vehicles in the United States last month, compared with 393,197 vehicles a year earlier.

Car sales dropped more than 19 percent, while truck sales slid more than 13 percent.

Results were adjusted for the extra selling day in May 2006.

"The overall industry was dampened by rising fuel prices and interest rates," GM sales chief Mark LaNeve said in a statement.

GM raised its second-quarter production forecast by 25,000 units to 1.225 million vehicles.

In the third quarter, GM plans to make 1.05 million vehicles, down 8.4 percent from a year

Re: GM sales drop in May

I would like to know how the competition is doing.

Im not surprized car sales are down. They really dont have anything new and interesting. I was expecting the SUVs to be doing better. Not just a "slight increase".

When the Tahoe and Escalade came out, they seemed to be selling like hotcakes.

Oh well... whats bad for GM could be good for us :\

Ford did ok this month, soon Ford's car gains will surpass its truck loss. Hopefully!

Re: GM sales drop in May

GM will continue limping along at least for another year and a half and then look out all the new product will start hitting the market....
