GM reports May Sales: Up 4.7%, Retail up 8.5%

I see the Aveo is continuing to get it’s ass kicked by the Yaris:
Aveo sales YTD 2007 5,436 2006 5,784 down 9.6% 2007 total 25,380.
Yaris sales YTD 2007 10,949 2006 8,065 up 30.5% 2007 total 37,367.

When you consider that the G5 is a half-assed rebadge with almost no marketing it’s sales are great. If GM gave it some unique styling and did more then run a few internet banner ads for it, it would outsell the ION ease.

GMC sponsors sports stuff on TV non-stop. And the enclave is all over the tiger woods and PGA circuit. What is Saturn sponsoring that they can plaster Outlook ads all over?

10X more ads. Saturn has way more advertising then Buick. I see Saturn ads all the time during popular prime time shows like CSI. You know shows that have way more people watching then any golf tournament.

Every time someone brings up the fact that Saturn’s reputation is 100% wrong for the cars they are trying to sell now the same thing always gets said: Give Saturn time, they need better marketing. But oh no there is no way that could be said about Chevy, forget the fact that there are way more Silverados and Tahoes parked in driveways next to Camrys and Civics then there are Saturn’s. Import owners just won’t buy Chevy’s no matter what GM does.

Sorry but a Chevy Lambada would only suck sales from other GM brands and would not pull in many import buyers. With Saturn they can start to heal the rift and change the minds of import buyers towards American cars. Yes it is late in the game but hell it is what it is and they are working hard at it now.

As I eluded to before. What does GM gain by getting import buyers if there mainstream brands are losing more sales then Saturn is getting?

That wasn't really the case until this month - the Yaris had a surge in sales. Compared to the Fit, the Aveo is outselling it IIRC.

Can't blame the Aveo for that. All things considered, I believe GM should be happy they sell the amount of Aveos they do.
