Re: General Motors Reports June 08 Sales; Truck Sales Down 17%; Mkt Share +2 Points

Aveo is down 20%, while Trailblazer sales are up 30%. That's so inexcusable, I can't even speak reasonably right now about it.

Gas is $4.10/gallon, and Chevrolet can't sell a subcompact. GM deserves that failure, it's a miserable car. Consumers aren't stupid.

Yeah, that and 0% financing and heavy discounts at the end of June. GM made no money and likely lost money on the June "market share" gimmick.

I would prefer GM follow Ford's approach and just take the hit in the numbers. In the long run it will benefit Ford.

CNN.Money.com reporting 18.5% as well. So what gives? Stock off $00.69 at $10.81.

I see pretty strong numbers for the smaller products in the lineup; G6, Malibu, Cobalt, Vibe and G5. And it is nice that the Tahoe and Silverado get better mpg than the Seqoia/Armada and Tundra/Titan, respectively.

What does "unadjusted" mean when they say "down 8%, 18.5% unadjusted". WTH?!!

Watch those discounts and incentives to keep adding up on the hoods of those Silverados!! Just a little bit longer and I'll trade up!

Did anyone notice the Trailblazer numbers????

UP 28%, while the identical GM Envoy was down 39%, as expected.

I thought the midsize SUV market was dead?!? Maybe a lot of wannabe-Tahoe buyers going for the I6 TB instead?

Someone explain this one to me...

On edit - also look at the GMC Acadia - DOWN 40% - WORSE than the Envoy????????

adjusted is for selling days last year there were 27 selling day in June. This year there were only 24.

Unadjusted is the actual comparision of number of vehicles sold - June 2007 vs June 2008

Adjusted - Adjusts the numbers for the number of "selling days" - basically Monday - Friday less holidays. Last year there were 27 selling days and this year 24. So its an 18% drop in Monthy numbers (unadjusted) but an 8% drop in the daily numbers.

Not bad news relatively speaking. Better than 'Yota - saw a 21.4% decline in sales.

Could it be that Toyota is seeing the decision to do a patch job on the Corolla hurt sales - even their car sales were down for the month (9.4%). Truck sales dropped a whopping 38.9%.

Not definding the Aveo - but the cobalt had better incentives and ended up cheaper "out the door" both for purchases and leases last month. Plus - Its a better vehicle - so I sure the Cobalt is stealing some of the Aveo sales.

Can't explain it... but to add to the confustion:

Pontiac Torrent Sales were up almost 6%. WTF?

For everyone who always screams to kill Saturn, please notice it is outselling Buick, Cadillac, Hummer, and Saab... with NO Haggle pricing and a limited dealership network. And this after moving away from their traditional buyers. I'm not saying its doing great, but not bad either.

The Aveo hatchback in still in change-over transition thus supplies are limited.

You are lucky at $4.10. I paid $ 4.39 for regular this morning.

Does anyone know how the G 8 is selling??

Seems like Saturn had a fairly strong performance, as well. Hopefully that may put to rest some of the Saturn axing nonsense!!

Overall, considering everything, I think this showing was fairly solid. Can you imagine if the economy was doing well and gas was reasonable? I bet it would be a strong showing for GM, indeed!

Thumbs up Re: General Motors Reports June 08 Sales; Truck Sales Down 17%; Mkt Share +2 Points

Having had a chance to briefly scrutinize GM's June figures, the following stand out . . .

Winners

Malibu +73.4
Equinox +45.9
Sky +44.1
G6 +34.2
Trailblazer +28.2
Aura +25.6
HHR +23.6
Vibe +23.0
Cobalt +21.6
CTS +16.0
STS +12.1

Losers

H3 -60.1
Outlook -58.0
9-5 -56.2
H2 -55.9
9-3 -54.7
DTS -54.1
Impala -53.5
Lucerne -44.5
Acadia -40.1
Envoy -38.9
Avalanche -38.8
LaCrosse -30.5
Silverado -23.7
Aveo -19.7
Enclave -18.4
Sierra -18.3

Bizarrely, the Aveo did far worse than June '07. Envoy was down, but by less than Acadia . . . whilst Trailblazer was substantially up. Some cars did predictably well, others suffered massive falls. Impala was a surprise, being down by a staggering 53.5 per cent.

A weird month, in some ways.

Local Chevy dealer has an Aveo and a Cobalt out front,Aveo has in big numbers on the door 46 mpg hiway, Cobalt has 44 mpg hiway, not a great incentive to buy the smaller Aveo.
