GM has to get out of the "maximizing the profit per vehicle" game and get into the "SELL THE CAR" one - what good is "saving" a couple of hundred dollars by leaving off key features when you lose thousands of dollars in built up inventory on dealer lots that require rebates to eliminate. This is bad business - plain and simple.
GM should only offer level of features on all LaCrosse models and distiguish models by engine. CX = 3800 CXL = 3.6 and Super = 5.3L the only options should be wheels, stereo, seat trim (cloth/leather), and moonroof, everything else standard. This would save hundreds of dollars a car by simplifying the build process (one wiring harness for the lights, a single model seat, single switch package on dash and doors, etc...).
Many items such as dash trim, wheels and even leather seating can be installed by the dealer.
As for a loaner from Ford, an Edge or the new Taurus X would have been nice to try. How was the Sport Trac?

I am not a truck lover. I found it to be a decent well built vehicle. We had it for about half a day. It was a cloth interior. It drove well in the city and I did not find it difficult to park at all. I did not pay attention to the mileage. It is a true truck. Not a vehicle I would purchase.
We still get christmas cards and stuff from the dealership even though we have moved to a different state and they know it.
