Good grief, just dump any remaining Olds on Avis and close this chapter once & for all. :p

I agree, it's a looker. Interestingly, I was unable to find any interior photos on the GM China website. Not that it's too easy to navigate with half of the site in Chinese, and the connection to the server in China not moving quickly today.

The cause behind most of the Toyota truck % changes can be pretty easily guessed too:

Sequoia: old in its life cycle; new Tahoe and Yukon eating it alive
Tundra: heavy spending on incentives; old competition from GM
GX470: 50% Escalade sales increase!
RX: probably the loss of hybrid mystique (especially in the V6 hybrids - ahem, Accord Hybrid)

Re: GM May Sales Down 16%

Saab 9-5 sales slip downwards as expected. Many hate new nose job and are already in waiting mode for next generation.

9-3 going down is surprising, was there some special discount last May?
4-cylinder turbo is perfect power/economy combination.

So, as in the Ion, it is possible for a vehicle to have an actual increase in sales, but a drop per "selling day". It's a retarded, obsolete practice they need to stop.

This is also why news stories frequently have different numbers than what is in the press releases, because the newspapers and magazines think it's as stupid as I think it is, and use the raw numbers instead.

I think the Lucerne is picking up Park Avenue and LeSabre customers since the Lucerne supposedly replaces those two cars... so it's doing its job.

That's not exactly true. For example, the Corolla is up, even though it's old. (It's up because it gets 40 MPG highway.) All three Scions are up by at least 10%, too, and they aren't new either. I'm sure the new FJ Cruiser is hurting 4Runner and Highlander sales. When combined with the 97% increase in sales of the RAV4 due to it's redesign, Toyota branded SUVs were up 31% overall.

Big gainers for Toyota (>10%):

Yaris (new)
Corolla up 28.0%
Scion xA up 71.3%
Scion xB up 41.4%
Scion tC up 10.6%
Lexus ES Series up 52.2%
Lexus IS Series up 928.1% (not a typo)
RAV4 up 97.0%
FJ Cruiser (new)

More great news.

GM needs to sell more fleet vehicles and stop cutting them off so much.

They definitely need help. Last month, the Canyon and Colorado combined barely outsold the 13 year old Ranger (10,444 vs. 9,628). Granted, the Ranger probably has more fleet sales, but the abandonment by domestics of yet another segment is sad.

All the Colorado needs is a new interior and a v8 option, I think it's the best looking mid-size pick-up right now.

The good news is good, but the bad news is atrocious. Several of the models that are only 2-3 years old are tanking and some need an overhaul already.

Seeing that it's not getting either for along time, GM screwed the pooch.... Kinda sad when they have a hard time to outsell the 13 year old Ranger

The Tundra is the best looking midsize followed by the Ranger. The colorado/canyon just look weird....

Re: GM May Sales Down 16%

I think the LaCrosse gets a bad rap. It rides nice and looks a lot better than many cars out there. I think GM hurt it with ads that said "cheaper than a Camry."

The CSX is a hot car, it's the CX that looks cheap.

It could use a new front end, and soon.

Have you driven one? Had one for a loaner couple months back, if it wasn't free I would have taken it back.

This here shows how Toyota has focused on future products that acheive the best fuel economy and less on large vehicles that are difficult to get high mpg numbers. The execs knew long ago that the price of oil would get more expensive and result in higher gas prices which in turn would cause more consumers to turn to smaller, more efficient vehicles.

Tough times are ahead. A brand new car is not in the cards. My new (to me) 16 year old Accord serves the purpose extremely well. And it's paid off!
