Re: GM July sales down 26.7%

GM's worst month of the last 2 years (maybe in a long time or perhaps ever?).

Compared to June:

UP: Lucerne, CTS (finally), Aveo, Malibu, G5, Astra, Aura (big time! best month of 06, 07), HHR, all Lambdas.
A very good month for Epsilons.

DOWN: Cobalt (why?), Impala (terrible month, worst of 06, 07), G8 (again), Vue (considerably).
I don't see what can be done until the economy improves. That'll take a while. I just hope that GM can survive this recession.

What difference does it make if it's DSR or raw volume -- it's a bleak picture for GM either way.

"Throw a bunch of things at the wall and see what sticks" has been GM's approach for far too long. And unfortunately, most of those things haven't stuck.

I'm a GM news addict and don't get tired of hearing the good and bad. But ditto on your second point. What more can be said?

Re: GM July sales down 26.7%

I wonder if, when the Vue 2-mode comes out if they will make more than 250/300 per month.
We are going to check one out. Probably be too expensive though to fool with.
If we get one, my Colorado is history.

Yeah, that's great - 3 GM models on the same platform sold through more dealers can't outsell one Toyota (or the Honda Accord) and that's before you discount the G6 being a fleet-queen. But if you add a fourth model on a 2nd platform, well then they "soundly" outsell Toyota's two models on one platform (you could even count the W-Body Lacrosse too).

No wonder Toyota is profitable and GM is not.

Not sure where you got "down 17%".

All percentages dsr adjusted - and all dsr% are negative.

Maybe not everywhere - there have been reports of a 'last minute flurry' to grab a lease while they are still relatively easy to handle.

I dont hear anyone saying the aura is a dud. Sales keep increasing every month. I thought the malibu was going to take sales away from it. I think people are finding out that both are nice vehicles.

Last year, asking questions of want verses need resulted in fierce responses. The suggestion of a shift away from giant vehicles was intensely mocked. And it was grounds for banning to compare details of hybrid design.

Now, reality is setting in. GM's year-to-date hybrid sales here are only at 5,467. Toyota/Lexus are at 165,522. Consumers are flocking to efficiency vehicles.

It's time for constructive discussions.

Re: GM July sales down 26.7%

GM needs to scrap plans on all vehicles in the MY10-11 pipeline and focus the few resources left to refresh entire current lineup asap to slow the hemoraging. Rebadge the refreshed models with all the legacy names baggage or not. No need to dump any brands they all have a market and GM needs every customer. No more blaming the UAW and retirees after years of bad decisions that continue daily. They helped earn the years of profits funding the current cash burn.

Whatever cash and resources saved from cleared development costs by stretching current lineup can facetrack whatever 2012's-14's in development to market for MY2011-12. GM needs to go back to industry leading stylish gotta have cars rather then more vanilla me-too boring looks and going toe-to-toe with the imports on panel gaps and cupholders.

The next gen GMs we have to wait so long for should have been in showrooms for MY06 not MY09-11. This turn-around strategy of coming to market late with more new nameplates isnt going to work against the next gen cam-cords with another gen of name recognition and good reputation. I hope the volt is as good as they claim. what a disaster...
