GM July sales down 19%.
GM July sales down 19%.
GM is still down, but mostly by a 47% decrease in fleet sales www.gminsidenews.com August 3rd, 2009 By Mark Bono ![]() GM sales slide continues with July sales down 19%. The good news is, the sales were dragged down by the low-profit fleet sales with them being down 47%. Retail sales are up 9%. Camaro sold 7,113 vehicles again topping the Mustang by ~500 sales. Re: GM July sales down 19%.
I can't believe the CTS. GM has a great deal of incentive programs on this vehicle (they are going for $28K base here in NY) and still nothing. Let's hope the new GM leasing program starts soon.
On the other hand, look at Pontiac car sales - Wow - cash on the hood has found a new home. 1100 people went home with G3s. Can Saturn dealers hold on for new product? Not with the average dealer selling one vehicle every two days they can't. Let's hope Mr. Penske has a plan. Assuming the downturn in Camaro sales was due to vacation shut down and not because of the infamous Camaro5 listing. Ford Ranger sold 3,784 more units than the Chevy Colorado (7695 > 3911)! Here we are in July 2009 and 538 additional people now own a 2008 Saturn Astra! How many are left? |

Re: GM July sales down 19%.
It makes perfect sense that fleet sales are down right along with the downturn in the economy as a whole.
This seems like good news. However I wonder how many sales are directly dependant on the deep-discounting that has been going on? Cobalt is one of the most deeply discounted models, at least here in Canada so again no surprise there. If the actual sales are above the projected sales used for post-bankruptcy planning then I think this is very good news. What say the automotive economists among us? -Elliott

Re: GM July sales down 19%.
GM has nothing going on now in terms of sales campaigns or cordinated national advertising. Its going to take a while to crank up.. things...
There is zero advertising from chevy dealers in San diego in the local paper. |

Re: GM July sales down 19%.
Saturn lost a sale last month from me for the third time in the last two years. I tried to buy the Astra but the freaking dealer was playing games with me. I guess Saturn doesn't matter anyway since they will be sold soon.
CTS sales are shocking but we must remember it is no longer a 32K car they cost around 38-40K new now. That least was the pricing when I got a friend to buy one about three months ago. You will never see the 36K version on the lot. Last edited by rueben44 : 08-03-2009 at 02:28 PM. |

Re: GM July sales down 19%.
Does GM still count sales of Pontiac, Hummer, Saab, and Saturn, or are those the sales of Liquidation Motors?
I heard that GM is going to be able to claim the losses from Liquidation Motors, which gives them a big tax break, since that will definitely reduce their income or keep them unprofitable. (And definitely means Ford that will return to profitability first, the subject of another thread.)

Re: GM July sales down 19%.
So GM's retail sales were up just as much as Ford's. Good news, I think.

Re: GM July sales down 19%.
Not really. Ford retail sales were up 9%. Down to 2% due to the fall of fleet sales.
