GM Hangs on to #1 Sales Spot; Holds off Toyota
The good news is shooting out over the wire for GM:
General Motors hangs on GM Proves It Still Has Some "Drive" When It Comes To Sales GM holds off Toyota in June sales General Motors Corp. outsells Toyota Motor Corp. in June DETROIT—General Motors Corp. outsells Toyota Motor Corp. in June to retain its traditional U.S. sales lead, even though GM says its sales dropped 18.2 percent for the month. Toyota sales had fallen 21.4 percent for the month. Both companies were hurt by a sluggish economy and poor sales of trucks and sport utility vehicles. GM on Tuesday reported selling 262,329 vehicles for the month, compared with Toyota's 193,234. For the first half of the year, GM sales were down 16.3 percent compared with the year-ago period. Toyota sales were down 6.8 percent for the first six months of the year. Source: http://www.boston.com/business/artic...stPop_Emailed7 ![]()

Good job GM! You're less of a loser than Toyota!

They didn't hang on. What you are witnessing is a bottoming out of GM marketshare. Except for last month, I felt they're sales decrease had flattened. I also had noticed a ton of cheap leases by toyoda and now I see why; they dumped all their inventory last month and got plastered this month.
Also, a nice uptick for Pontiac and Saturn, they both have a future.

Re: GM Hangs on to #1 Sales Spot; Holds off Toyota
Don't you just love the mainstream media coverage on this topic today? This morning, Cheri Preston of ABC News Radio could hardly contain her glee at the prospect of Toyota outselling GM this month. After the sales reports came out, she wasn't quite as happy, but still managed to report that "It was close...but GM barely beat out Toyota for the sales lead in June."
Apparently somewhere along the line 69,095 vehicles has become an insignificant number, but only when comparing Toyota and GM sales. ![]()

Re: GM Hangs on to #1 Sales Spot; Holds off Toyota
WHO CARES??? the trend can't continue forever if GM doesn't get some competitive cars out there. whoring out trucks to make sales isn't exactly something to crow about. when the trucks aren't playing a huge factor in sales numbers, and it's based more on compact to midsized cars, then what's GM got to play with? being number 1 isn't as important as being relevant in the market, and right now, GM is becoming less relevant. i don't care about these empty numbers, wake me when they've got something better than a Mazda3 or Civic.

Re: GM Hangs on to #1 Sales Spot; Holds off Toyota
I just want the media to blast Toyot the same way they have been blasting GM and Ford for having the wrong product at the wrong time. Why are Toyota sales down if Toyota has focused on fuel efficient cars as opposed to SUVs? will anyone ever tackle this subject. I can guarantee you that the media will now say we are in a recession since Toyota sales were down. If its GM its simply a matter of bad product decisions but if Toyota declines than it must be recession. Trucks cant even explain Toyotas decline because they dont sell that many trucks compared to GM or Ford. Their cars are down except Yaris, camry and corolla. Every lexus except the LS is struggling and the Avalon is falling off the map.

I can't believe how much Toyota fell last month. And what's up with Lexus? It looks like someone opened a door beneath them and they fell through. And GM's market share is up? Where am I this Canada Day? Bizarro World? ![]() |

Re: GM Hangs on to #1 Sales Spot; Holds off Toyota
Good News!!
Looks like GM will be able to hang in there until it gets all it new priducts on line. If the new launches are as good or better than the new Malibu, I'm confident GM will be around a long time. Toyota is not unstopable or invincible! |
