GM Global Sales, Q2/H1 2007

GM Announces Global Quarterly Sales In Excess of 2.4 Million Vehicles; Record Sales Outside United States

"GM's second quarter sales were driven by exceptionally strong demand in emerging markets. GM global sales of 4.67 million vehicles for the first half of the year reflects solid results, in fact we're on track to have our second-best annual sales performance in our almost 100-year history," John Middlebrook, GM vice president, Global Sales, Service and Marketing Operations, said today. "In the second quarter we experienced record sales growth around the globe including 20 percent growth in Latin America, Africa and the Middle East - an all-time quarterly record for that region, and 8 percent growth in the Asia/Pacific region. We're also pleased to see almost 5 percent growth in Europe where we sold more than 574,000 vehicles."

Toyota Motor: Apr-Jun Global Sales Volume 2.36 Million Vs GM's 2.41 Million

TOKYO -(Dow Jones)- Toyota Motor Corp.'s (7203.TO) global vehicle sales for the April-June quarter came in below those of General Motors Corp. (GM) for the same quarter after the Japanese car maker grabbed the No. 1 spot in worldwide auto sales in the previous quarter. The latest sales show the top two global auto makers are continuing their head-to-head battle despite expectations the Japanese auto maker will topple GM to become the world's biggest car maker for the full year.
Toyota said Friday it sold 2.36 million vehicles in the three months ended June, fewer than the 2.41 million vehicles sold by GM in the same period.
Strength in emerging markets such as Asia and Latin America helped GM post a slight 0.4% gain in worldwide sales in the second quarter, as sales in its core North American market remained weak.
Still, Toyota outsold GM for the first six months of this year with worldwide sales totaling 4.71 million vehicles, compared with the 4.67 million sold by the U.S. auto giant over the same period.
The Detroit auto maker is battling its Japanese counterpart for the top spot in the global auto industry in terms of sales. In the first quarter,Toyota edged GM for the first time ever on a quarterly basis.

Its important to note that Toyota is still ahead for first six months.

Absolutely useless. In those 3 months, on slightly less volume, Toyota made about $3,000,000,000 in PROFIT. While GM probably LOST money. Business 101....

We'll see how the next quarter goes. Not looking too good for July.

Thanks for the info Mr. Obvious.

GM is addressing many of their issues. If they can keep #1 at the same time, I see it as a bonus.

I know it's been said over and over again, but it's not easy for GM to make a profit in the US given the circumstances. I recently read GM has over 400,000 retirees and dependants to support whilst Toyota, Honda (and all the other transplants) combined have only 1200. Hardly a level playing field. If you negated that cost GM would be making $6bn a year more.
