Re: GM, Ford US sales seen down in May; Toyota, Honda up

i dont like these really broad articles. they are somewhat misleading. it is like one person writes a news article about a topic and then everyone just copies his article but every time it is copied its get less and less specific. not really saying much about this specific article, but down the line in like two weeks we are gonna read the same article 7 different times, by different people, and each time its just gonna be the same thing, but each time less and less informative.

Re: GM, Ford US sales seen down in May; Toyota, Honda up

This is the crappiest article I've read in a while. They cite slowing production of the 800s as a sign of trouble but totally ignore the 68% of the market the 900s have captured. 800s are either fleet or firesale. Cutting their production is a very good thing.

Why was this article even posted?!?

Are they still producing 800s SUV?????? I think the article is talking about Pick-ups
Quote:
JP Morgan analyst Himanshu Patel, who expected GM's production to be down 6 percent, said the automaker was likely to temporarily idle production lines for its outgoing GMT 800 line of pickup trucks from time to time during third quarter.
Don't know why, but I think he is means pick up trucks.

Re: GM, Ford US sales seen down in May; Toyota, Honda up

If I needed a small fuel efficient car the last place I would go would be Toyota or Honda. It would take years of gas savings to recoupe all the extra money they charge for cars like the Prius or Civic. Wouldn't a lightly optioned Jetta diesel make a lot more sense provided the reliability was there of course. Even a small Kia or Hyundai seems a lot more appealing to me with it's lower prices and better warrentys.

Uh-oh... I can't stand these falling sales. GM and Ford need to hustle up and catch up with the Japanese quality if they want to gain back a decent reputation. Right now, despite their new products, everything except Cadillacs are considered absolute crap.

Jeez.
So... your point is that you don't like sales data? Because they are indeed published every month, whether GM is up or down.

No. I like seeing the sales data, good or bad. It's always interesting. What I don't like is every media outlet thinkable writing a stupid article about sales before they are even anounced.

Re: GM, Ford US sales seen down in May; Toyota, Honda up

So are these numbers are based on year ago comparisons? Since fleet sales are down, compared to last year, then Yes, year ago sales will be down.

But isn't the new Tahoe selling real well, and the new Escalade?

Re: GM, Ford US sales seen down in May; Toyota, Honda up

Sales is a significant indicator of corporate health. GM and Ford's new products are not (i) increasing market share, or (ii) stemming the market losses of older models. This is very bad news no matter how you look at it.

Well, it's nice to know that if I poo on a stick and make it look pretty it'll sell.

These "numbers" aren't actually sales numbers. They are projections by industry analysts, who's reputation for getting things right is about as good as the weatherman's.
