GM the exception in Canada June auto sales rise

GM of Canada’s Saturn Division Posts Another Record Month
(Non-adjusted sales results – June 2007 had 27 selling days vs. June 2006 with 26 selling days)
Oshawa, Ontario (July 4th, 2007) – For June 2007, General Motors of Canada dealers delivered a total of 42,466 units, down 6.3% over the same month last year.

Marc Comeau, GM of Canada’s vice-president of sales, service, and marketing said, “June capped off a successful first half of the year for GM with retail sales up slightly calendar year to date and up 4% during the second quarter. We expect to continue this trend in the second half of the year as the recently launched GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave crossovers build momentum and we launch the highly anticipated new Chevrolet Malibu this fall.”

Comeau added “Saturn continues to be the big news for GM with its second consecutive record sales month, up 87.5%. The Sky was up 83% over last June and the Aura sedan and Outlook crossover continue to sell beyond expectations. The new 2008 Vue is also creating buzz as it begins to arrive in retail showrooms.”

Sales Highlights for June

The Saturn division posted an 87.5% increase in June

The Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pick ups were up 18% for the calendar year and 5.6% for June, marking the sixth consecutive monthly increase since the launch of the new trucks

Mid-utilities were up 56.7% for the month, driven by the strength of GMs all new crossovers, the GMC Acadia,
Buick Enclave and Saturn Outlook

The Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky roadsters were up a combined 28.5%

Well, that is bad news overall. However, they definitely do their best to highlight the bright areas. It just makes you wonder where the negative areas were!?!

This is the only headline I pay attention to anymore. It is always the same: Honda and Toyota up. GM down. In the rare occasion GM gets an "up" month, Toyota and Honda are still "up". So in actuality, it doesn't really matter what GM says or how they try to spin it.

Toyota and Honda can sell in a good economy. They can also sell in a bad economy. GM can't do either.

When the headlines read "GM sales up, Honda and Toyota down", then I'll get excited. By the look of things, we won't be reading that headline until sometime in 2009 when the Volt rolls out (hopefully). That's the only way I see GM taking market share from "the other two".

GM could put out their best product ever - which one can argue they are doing right now with some models - and they'd still lose marketshare.

I guess GM just didn't do bad here in the United States, but also the rest of the North America (mainly Canada). At least we know that India did well for June for GM. What other markets went up for GM in June besides India? China and maybe places like Latin American and Africa?

I blame the lack of incentives. There are no deals in Canada right now.

Me too. They ran to Honda and Toyota in the 80s.
