It amazes me that GM will cancel the Uplander / Montana next year while sales are still strong. Just stupid I think. We will likely lease another one in January as my wifes business van.

Re: Toyota Canada Sales drop nearly 10%

A good chunk of the Canadian marketplace is down in sales. The strong Canadian dollar vs the weak US dollar, and pricing being different in Canada and more favorable in the US. If people aren't cross border shopping, then they are playing the waiting game, just to see what happens next. Now, the government wants to drop taxes by 1%, and it's another hurdle that needs to be dealt with, people waiting for that, even though it's just $250 on a $25000 car. Down this month, but still up overall.

Considering the huge numbers of new vehicles being bought by Canadians in the US its a pleasant surprise.

Yeah, that whole 1% drop in the GST should stop people from crossing the border, way to go Harper! People blame retailers (and especially automakers) for not passing on savings as our gov't publicizes huge budget surpluses..... Maybe cancelling the GST altogether might be a start!

Unfortunately your analysis doesn't explain GM's performance vis a vis Toyota's in Canada. Why did GM go up while Toyota go down? The same economic factors are affecting both and prices for both brands cars differ radically on either side of the border. Had everyone fared like Toyota your analysis would be valid, but the domestics all did better and Toyota did worse. Hence, something else is afoot.

Re: Toyota Canada Sales drop nearly 10%

I got an email that was a reminder of GM's export policy. NO DEALER is allowed to sell outside the U.S. It is a violation of dealer agreements and screws GM of Canada. SPEND YOUR MONEY IN YOUR COUNTRY. People need to be less worried of saving a few $$$. eehhh?
