Re: GM April 2008 Sales: Down 16.3%

I just can't wait to see what the rise in Cobalt sales is going to be like for May since they are dumping $3000.00 on the hood! Shouldn't this sell all by itself since they can now say it gets 36MPG?? I mean come on! It's not that old or bad of a car! GAS IS $3.50 PER GALLON NOW!! This car should be able to sell without rebates, or at least without 3K on the hood!

End of rant, back to your regularly scheduled thread.

Can GM and Ford survive without selling full-sized pickups in large numbers? I wonder where the bottom is for those sales numbers.

Geez - 17,050 for the Malibu which only comes in sedan form. This is without the new class leading MPG 2.4/6spd combo too...

Did GM discontinue the Trailblazer and Envoy and forget to tell anyone? What happened? Did they discontinue fleet sales?

Wow. Looks like all the Epsilons are up. That's good news.
What surprises me is that Uplander sales are positive...

A point of comparison for the Cobal.

Focus sales were up 44% for the month, and retail sales were up 88%. Wow.

Anyway, I don't see where any of this is a surprise.

100% fleet for Uplander. Maybe some are buying Uplander instead of fleet SUVs or something.

Man the economy is killing the SUV lineup...and some of the cars too! What is going on with the Aveo? It's up, then it's down, then it's up, then down again!

Re: GM April 2008 Sales: Down 16.3%

As good as the mileage is now on the MT cobalt the mileage is no better than before on the auto trans models which is what most people buy. Hopefully the mpg #'s are much better with the '09 improvements. The 6-speed 4-cyl should improve sales for the Malibu even more when it is more available. The Aveo is a continued embarrasment as far as fuel economy and needs help fast.

I hope they can survive the downturn in trucks which will only get worse as gas hits $4/gallong.

35 MPG for Cobalt XFE Automatic, both Malibu and Cobalt FE improvements have largely not made it out to the car lots yet. Replacements for nearly all midsized, compact, and subcompact cars by end of 2010, plus all small crossovers get replaced by then as well if we can last that long.

Re: GM April 2008 Sales: Down 16.3%

Hopefully GM will be able to push up the Volt and two-mode releases. GM needs to cut alot of trucks from the line up and consider a much broader range of more fuel efficent vehicles if they want to weather this one. Offering crossovers that get 20 mpg combined and less won't cut it.
