They should bring him back to hawk the current products. As bad as all the k-car derivatives were, they sure sold well when they first came out, especially the vans.

for eight years I have been calling for drastic changes in our marketing. for three years I have been calling for Wagoner's removal. Return to Greatness is the answer and Red Ink Rick couldn't be less interested. Why? suppose it's hard to relocate an industry while making profit?

Re: GM April 2008 Sales: Down 16.3%

"Throughout the centuries there were men who took the first steps down new roads armed with nothing but their own vision. Their goals differed, but they all had this in common: that the step was first, the road new, the vision unborrowed, and the response they received---hatred. The great creators---the thinkers, the artists, the scientists, the inventors---stood alone against the men of their time. Every great new thought was opposed. Every great new invention was denounced. The first motor was considered foolish. The airplane was considered impossible. The power loom was considered vicious. Anesthisia was considered sinful. But the men of unborrowed vision went ahead. They fought, they suffered, and they paid. But they won."

The Malibu is an entirely different animal from the G8- one a FWD midsize sedan in a segment that sells over a million vehicles a year easily, the other a RWD full size sedan in a segment that is basically the Chrysler twins, and little else until the Genesis joins the party. Putting a ton of money into advertising for the G8 beyond the target market, males between 25-49 in this case, would be a waste of resources with very little to show in return. Just like it's rare to see a woman driving a Charger RT, it will be rare to see a woman driving a G8 GXP.

Pontiac will do the mass market 'advertise to everyone' approach when the next generation G6 comes to market. Pushing 30k+ RWD vehicles to everyone just isn't a sound marketing strategy.
There are two GTO's in our company parking lot - one owned by a man (over 50) the other a women in her mid 30's, and I see plenty of women driving BMW's out here.

What about the high number of CTS ads? It is not a "volume" vehicle - GM needs to do more ads than just sporting events, some prime time ads on popular shows (in place of the one or two of the non-stop truck ads would'nt hurt).

You defend GM marketing as if they are doing a good job - they are terrible.

Trailblazer sales are down so much because of the strike at American Axle. They should keep this platform, just refresh it a bit like they do the Ford Ranger. Look how long that has been around.

Just read on TTAC that analysts say GM's sales for May '08 are going to be down 22-25 percent.

The TrailBlazer is an SUV built for soccer moms continuing to build it at this point doesn’t make any sense. The people that buy SUVs because they need them for towing are going to buy Tahoes or Suburbans.
