4 of the 8 brands GM is reporting on are dead. Do you think that affect sales? The four dying brands have 3 of the 4 largest declines.

GM is projecting 21% share last month- best of the year.

Stark numbers, but I feel compelled to point out that dealers - at least in my area - had precious little to sell. To say the 2010 models have been trickling in is an overstatement.

It looks like a generic Asian car, like something Toyota or Hyundai would produce. And given that most people will go with the better reputation of Toyota and Hyundai now.

GM's problems are numerous and haven't gotten any less complicated with bankruptcy or the government delaying the inevitable by wasting billions of our tax dollars on them.

GM needs a real and distinct look for Chevrolets. GM has to figure out what differentiates Chevrolet from everyone else. GM needs to still improve interior style, quality and materials. GM needs to offer the same or more features in Chevrolets than the competition for less money (better value). They also need to have the best warranty on the market period on Chevrolets, no excuses.

Apparently Ford needs a better Fusion, Focus, and a B-car. Your complaint is unfounded.
That is a huge drop in Fusion sales from earlier in the year. Fusion sold over 20k units several times this year. I think best month might have been close to 25k.

By cheap model you mean $20k. IF you think that 20K car should have 4 speed and no ipod connection and bluetooth. you should work for gm. They will love you there. But just do not blame everybody for your 45% sales decline. Ford down 5% Hynday up 27% but gm will make you bealive it is cash for clunkers that made these terrible sales for gm. I am telling you. People should be happy if gm can hold to 15% of market share.

aside from Hyundai who has a better warranty than Chevy?

If you think the Malibu looks like the Accord or Camry you need glasses. The Malibu's sales are falling because the midsize market is so competitive and the Fusion is newer and likely taking away many "buy American types". There is nothing wrong with the car. It is idiotic to suggest that any car that isnt a best seller is in desperate need of improvement. The mazda6 is considered one of the top 3 family sedans and it cant get traction in the midsize market. MAzda WISHES they could sell 10k 6's in a bad month.

Ford was inventory restrained, on many models, just like GM.

C4C decimated Fusion stock, so the numbers are no surprise.

Numbers that matter:

Fusion sales YTD: 134,600 +14.5%
Malibu sales YTD: 118,995 -15.3%

Ford's sales were down like 36% last year and they still got outsold by GM last month. GM and Ford gained share apparently last month.

Name one $20k midsize sedan other than Sonata with standard USB connection. Accord doesn't even have a USB connection. Altima is just gettng it for 2010 and its not standard. Camry has it for 2010 but not standard.

Actually analysts are saying going forward no automaker will have more than 20% ever again in the US market. Ford, GM and Toyota will remain close.

Fusion debut: February 2009
Malibu Debut: August 2007.

New models tend to sell better than older ones. Malibu sales are not down as much as Accord/Camry sales for the year. Not that you would mention that.

CArry on.

until we have year over year comparisons between GM's core brands ONLY you are likely to see this kind of thing. Get used to it and worry about how GM's new products are doing and marketshare. That is what's important. If you bother to look at the press release you will see Hummer, Saab, Saturn and POntiac did poorly last month. NO suprise since they are being phased out and no new Saturns or POntiacs are being built.

What does it matter? Chevrolet has the worst brand image of any mainstream family car next to Chrysler/Dodge. You can't make excuses for not offering a warranty that is equal or better to Hyundai.

Hyundai/Kia used to be the absolutely basement of transportation. That's completely changed. The confidence of their warranty, their rock-bottom prices, and reliability has made the company into a juggernaut.

GM hasn't been a juggernaut for decades. What possible excuse can they have for not making their products and coverage better? They are in a simiilar position now that Hyundai was in when the setup shop here in the US.
