Ford sales lead in Canada for first time in 50 years
http://ctv2.theglobeandmail.com/serv...N/ctv-business
Ford Motor Co. of Canada Ltd. said it led Canada in vehicle sales in June for the first time in 50 years. Ford said it sold 27,408 vehicles in June, which was a 25 per cent jump on sales in June, 2008 and the first year-over-year sales increase it has posted in 2009. The increase came in a month when General Motors Corp. fell into Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the United States and Chrysler Canada Inc. dealers were short of vehicles because that auto maker's North American plants were shut as it also went through a bankruptcy protection process in the United States. |

Re: Ford sales lead in Canada for first time in 50 years
To tell you the truth I am not surprised.
There's a Chrysler dealer not far from my home and the lot is really getting empty (they got many 20 cars left, and normally they have maybe 150 in stock). It's not because it's closing down, but rather because all the Chrysler plants have closed down. When I went for the Malibu, the dealer lot was almost empty. They had maybe 3 malibus, a US-spec used Suburban LTZ and Corvette C6, A new Tahoe LTZ, and a few other cars. They had no impalas, no uplanders, etc.. In Canada ,I see more domestic cars every day. I hope that all US automakers finally increase their sales while the imports lose share.

I also considered a 2010 fusion and the two dealers where I went had low inventory, but it wasn't as bad as what I've seen at Chevy or Chrysler.

No Impalas, Traverse, Camaros, Corvettes, Full size SUVs or HHRs in site. Definitely slim pickings depending on what you are looking for. |

That said, Chevy has matched the 2010 base Fusions with a cash price of around $19-20K. |

Re: Ford sales lead in Canada for first time in 50 years
Amazing times we live in.
Toyota dethrowns GM in worldwide sales and the entire Auto Industry collapses (I'm not saying it related ) Ford avoids bankruptcy by leveraging itself to the eyeballs and they become the darlings of the domestic market. The moral? Wagoneer was at least right that Bankruptcy would play badly with the buying public. Ironic. Hey at least there is a new way to make your cars in demand: Don't produce any.

All the domestic lots locally are pretty sparse, the Chevy dealer being the worst. This process of getting field stock down to manageable levels is making it difficult to buy what you want off the lot. Wife and I looked for an 09 Equinox in the local area and could not find anything that we wanted, and were told there would be a 10 or 12 week wait for a 2010.

Re: Ford sales lead in Canada for first time in 50 years
Part of the problem for Chevy/GM dealerships, will be floorplanning. NOBODY, except GMAC will floorplan for a GM or Chrysler dealership, right now.
Our local Ford store is owned by a family that owns a second Ford store in another small town............... a Toyota store in larger town................ and a GM mixed dealership in a small town (primarily Chevy). He could not get floorplanning for any of his dealerships, because he has the GM one. He had to reorganize his operations, splitting out the GM dealership............... and now has floorplanning money galore. For GM and Chrysler dealerships, until GM gets out of BK................ and there is any kind of confidence in them at all, by the lenders............... getting the money to get cars/trucks will be real hard. Dealer trades will be the name of the game. |

Ford just added employee pricing and delivery allowance starting yesterday here in Canada. I am going to go try out an F150 tomorrow for the heck of it as I need a new truck within 2 weeks.

Re: Ford sales lead in Canada for first time in 50 years
I'm not surprised that Ford hit number one. My neighbour bought a news F series today. He traded in a Silverado. It's a sign of the times especially in Canada where we tend to be rather conservative and safe with home ownership, banking, insurance and vehicles. As such, few people want to buy from companies with a "bankruptcy" stigma attached to their name.
I commute every day and I'm amazed at the number of 2010 Fusions on the road. Knowing Canadians love for small cars, it can only get better when the new Fiesta hits our shores. I saw a number of them in England last month and they are impressive.
