Re: Ford january numbers
I think we should realize one big point of context for the Fusion sales: 2008 Malibu finally became fully available on dealer lots and outsold the Fusion by a good margin. I have no doubt some of those buyers would have bought the Fusion...

Re: ford january numbers
Wow, you need to do a little research before enlightening us. In January, Camry sold 30,000 and Accord sold 23,000.

since it's you, Paul , here's my takelast year, 2007, the Fusion/Milan/MKZ sold 201,813 in the U.S. I don't keep track of #'s for Canada, Mexico, or other market(s) they may be sold in. The Hermosillo plant is running 2 shifts, so the total seems reasonable to me. (IIRC the plant produces 100k-125k per shift) Going to 3 shifts AFAIK incurs quality/maintenance challenges & Ford's very much on a quality mission. Also, due to maintenance (it has to be done some time), a 3rd shift wouldn't yield a 50% increase in production, but would mean a 50% increase in wages, & there's also the question as to whether a 30-40%(?) increase would require more incentives (which Ford, like GM, is trying to limit). So... No, I wouldn't say Fomoco is disappointed but "that's just my opinion" <Nick wink™>

Re: Ford january numbers
This was a pretty poor month overall for Ford sales. None of their cars or trucks did well, and SUV's were on the average side. Edge and MKX weren't fully available on the lots until Feb or May, which explains their increases (the volumes of both hang normally around the 10-11K unit for edge, 3K for MKX). It's a tough market if your products aren't hitting on all cylinders.

Re: Ford january numbers
I wrecked my car last week and rented a Fusion, the only one they had. Everything else was Chrysler, nissen or Korean (Almost got the only new Malibu that Enterprise had but someone beat me to the punch).
Anyways the Fusion is by far the best non-luxury sedan I have ever been in terms of ride, interior noise, and handling. Actually I think it beats many luxury cars in some of these areas. I think the only sort of downer is that when you punch the V6, it has giddy up and go, but it is so quiet that it doesn't seem like your accelerating that fast. The steering wheel is so intiutive. It also has sync but I haven't figured that one out yet. Anyways I got a great rental car to enjoy for the next 3 weeks. I will definitely consider buying one in a year or so. Maybe sooner if we get a fire sale due to the poor auto sales. |
