Re: February 2008 Sales: Ford Motor Company (down 6.9%)
Interesting how Ford is no longer breaking out the mid-size car nameplates; now it's simply "Taurus." No "Taurus - old," Five-Hundred, etc.
How the hell was the Mountaineer up over last year? Incentives? Finally, pretty scary that Volvo is considering dropping the S60 from its lineup. That was its best selling nameplate last month.

On the contrary, Toyota wasn't that far behind from Ford for last month's sales.
Ford sales Total for last month= 196,681 Toyota's sales for last month= 182,169 Very close numbers indeed. Ford needs to keep an eye on Toyota's monthly sales. ![]() |

Re: February 2008 Sales: Ford Motor Company (down 6.9%)
Basically EVERYONE needs to keep an eye on Toyota's monthly sales. Yes, that includes Nissan, Honda, et al.
GM of course should also do it, although even if they DO keep an eye on Toyota it probably won't be enough to prevent it from taking GM's #1 spot worldwide... |

Re: February 2008 Sales: Ford Motor Company (down 6.9%)
At least they beat the analysts and taking away the fleet sales reductions, they probably would have had a small increase in sales. Flex, new F150, new again Taurus and Fiesta can't come soon enough. I want a Ka and Mondeo too! Maybe that was what Mullaly was hinting at with the radical Taurus redesign...a Mondeo inspired Taurus.
Next year the hard comparison will be the elimination or massive reduction in Panther cars (Crown Vic, Gran Marquis & Town Car); maybe even the Mountaineer. Did you see Chrysler trying to move in on the Crown Vic at the Las Vegas race by hawking that Charger Police Pace Car? I think Ford should mock them and have a bright yellow Crown Vic Taxi Cab be the Pace car at Bristol. Either that or a stretch Town Car Limo. |

Ford should do so, not GM. GM has a lot of momentum going an it's definitely not going to end anytime soon..... Ford on the other hand is suffering from lackluster sales and you can't deny that. Just look at the numbers. Toyota's sales for February are almost right inline with Ford's sales. Ford is clearly the automaker that should be keeping an eye on Toyota's monthly sales, not GM. Don't try and argue with facts buddy. ![]() |

Re: February 2008 Sales: Ford Motor Company (down 6.9%)
Facts :
GM down 13% for February Ford down 6.9% for February Toyota down 3% for February etc. (look these FACTS up, the sources are all readily available) In other words, Ford has gained ground on GM in US sales last month. Quote:
Ouch. Please don't try to argue with facts again. (Friendly advice) |

The way Ford has been improving quality lately, I wouldn't be surprised if they pass toyotanic in the next JDPower initial quality index. Last time only two Ford models weren't at least average or better in quality. The only two major issues to hold Ford back were the old 6.0 powerstroke and a problem with the F-150 4WD versions. The new 6.4 powerstroke is purring along quite well and I'm assuming there has been some progress on the 4wd issues. Things are going well for Ford's Mazda subsidiary. Meanwhile, toyotanic has a nightmare on its hands with the turdra, lexus models and camry falling apart within hours after leaving the assembly line. Not to mention the sienna door self-destruction problems and perhaps tacoma I've heard. |

Give me a break alright. I'm talking strictly about monthly units. Let's see...... Toyota sales for February = 182,169 units Ford's sales for February = 196,681 units GM sales for February = 270,423 Those are facts! Regardless if GM posted a decline for the month, GM was still way on top for the month of February. Now although Ford sold more cars and trucks in February than Toyota, they weren't that far ahead of Toyota. Toyota is the one who is catching up to Ford and I honestly don't think GM has anything to worry about over the long run due to the fact that GM is constantly pumping out new cars that are attracting a lot of media buzz, interest, and sales. And there is a lot more coming in the near future. As for Ford, they haven't done almost anything when compared to GM. By the way, I'm not talking about global sales so don't even go there. We are talking about sales for the month of February. ![]() |

So basically, while in your opinion GM may have better vehicles than Ford, the trend is GM is losing buyers at a faster rate than Ford. Of course, this is all based on February so that may or may not be the overall trend. |

Re: February 2008 Sales: Ford Motor Company (down 6.9%)
Anyone else notice how much Mustang sales have fallen off?
Taurus sales are still pathetic I see...and Sable sales are pretty much non-existant. I'm sure the recent announcement of a all-new Taurus coming soon isn't helping sales either. Last edited by silvergoat2k6 : 03-06-2008 at 07:46 PM. |
