Dec Sales results, mid size cars from aol

Here is the link to the Dec, sales results and it shows that some of the new cars out there are eating into the Camry sales. Camry was down about 2 % while the g6 was up 23% and the Malibu was up 20%

There are some scary numbers on that webpage and GM needs to watch out.

Hyundai Sonata is up 145% and is #4 on the list ahead of the Impala.

Impala is down 25%

Buick Lucerne is outselling the AURA.

Not good news.

Aura sales are down in Detroit market because for the first time in a long time the Pontiac G6 has a better lease deal. Same story on the Outlook v.s Acadia. When they give one division a better deal than another there will be winners and losers. Same story with Saab 9-7x and the Envoy. The 9-7 has more equipment and is $90 per month less on a lease.

Not good news.
The Sonata is what we like to call an end of year fleet dump. A typical 10-12k/mo car suddenly jumps to 25k?

On the Lucerne vs. AURA, compare sales per dealer/retailer. It certainly helps having 3x as many sales outlets.

That 9% is 522 vehicles or each retailer selling about 1 car less last month.

I'm afraid the G6 news is attributable to Hertz, Budget, and Avis.

The Malibu, of course, is selling so well that dealers can't get enough.

Still, rather embarrasing. Saturn, as a whole, is doing well enough but not nearly what I thought it would be. The newest line up of vehicles in the industry sold by the most popular and well regarded dealer network in the country should be able to move more Auras and Outlooks.

Interesting that the Avalon is not there and the Taurus is outselling the Maxima

That's because the Maxima is about as odd looking as mid-sized sedans get. Too many quirky styling touches.

Personally, i disagree. I think it might have something to do with the price.

Ok GM...a 32% decrease in sales for the Impala means trouble. Get to work!

Re: Dec Sales results, mid size cars from aol

hmm, The Aura needs more sale's outlets or is it because its a 'Saturn' and people still need some time to realize it's out there? I'd say its a combination of both. I don't see advertising for it at ALL. I see the Astra when driving north on 75, but not the Aura.

Re: Dec Sales results, mid size cars from aol

Sigh, I'm not going to check all the numbers. GM has the Malibu (old and new)
together as the following.

Dec 2007/2006 Malibu 12,172 11,406 6.7%

YTD 2007/2006 // 128,312 163,853 -21.7%

Whatever.

To whatever extent if any, that the Sonata (retail) was more improved by 4.6% AND 6.7% - thats the biggest story - using these numbers as presented.

Why ? The Accords 4.6% in the article and the 6.7% for the Malibu as a series.
