Re: Chinese May car sales result

Nah others are catching up, so they said GM is not gonna be #1 this year, and beside the news with Total GM sales are misleading sometimes, there are 3 companies which is related to GM in China, there is the GM China, which is in charge of selling Opel and collaborate with ShanghaiGM ( which is the 2nd compnay that GM joint with SAIC in a 50:50 way) Shanghai GM is in charge of the sales n manufacture of Buick, Chevy and Cadillac in China.

The third one is SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co, which is that little company who make those Vans which account for nearly half (guessing) of the total GM vehicle sales, but seriously GM has only 25% in that company, so media in china dont usually count the cars it sold into the total GM number, while figures u guys get from american media always put cars sold by SGMW under the big GM umbrella, thats why GM is selling so many cars in China, then again GM is the #1 in China last year even without SGMW;p

(thats my understanding of how GM work in China, correct me if i m wrong, becoz i m 100% sure;o )

What GM might need is a solid contender for all those Cherys and Xialis - how is the Sail doing?

2. Chery
3. Shanghai VW
4. Shanghai GM
5. Dongfeng Nissan
6. Guangzhou-Honda
7. Geely

Given that Chery and its models are highlited in those oh-so-refined Excel charts, I bet 5 RMB those are Chery's data - which explains why they are so high (I really don't think Chang'an-Ford is bigger than Chang'an Suzuki, or that Geely is larger than DPCA).

Not quite, but I have my ways Goes better with Japanese...

BTW, I thought that the Chang'an Suzukis were extremely popular, and also much cheaper than the Focus. Ford used to be a non-contender in the PRC not that long ago, so I guess THIS is news, rather than Chery.

Oh, perhaps this is based on some weird calculations, e.g. taking into account only some models based on the two first digits of their official numbers - I never figured that out other than I think 7 is for bus, as the Monstro was registered as a "7" to circumvent the regulations....

Icic, well nowadays ford is doing pretty good in China, everyone seems love the Focus, and they start selling the S-MAX too, plus the new Mondeo is coming soon, i bet Ford might be even better this year

Why is Volkswagen beating GM in China? What is so appealing to the Chinese of the Volkswagens compared to a good solid GM? =]

Re: Chinese May Car Sales Results

Well, they got those new cars, like the "new jetta" not the one shown above, Passat......and also there are loads of fleet cars, like the jetta shown above and the Santana 3000, for taxi and other stuff, n beside they got 2 separate VW in china, 2 separate network... same as toyota, so GM be careful......toyota is coming :S
