Re: Canadian Sales Sept.

prices should be able to be lessened if the U.S. is down because then there is more profit on U.S. manufactured autos.

Re: Canadian Sales Sept.

I would gladly purchase a new truck from a U.S. dealer to save 30%. Why should anyone worry about warranties. Just take it to the American dealer for servicing. Shouldn't be a problem since most Canadians live within 50 miles of the border.

Re: Canadian Sales Sept.

I won't be letting anyone in my extended family buy a new car here. (We live ~20 miles away from the U.S. border.)

All of you should do the same... to show them that no, the Canadian market won't bear paying 30% more for vehicles identical to the ones sold 20 miles further south. We aren't that dumb.

Relax, people.

Canadians earn more than Americans. Things are naturally more expensive up here.

Actually, back in 1998, when the CDN dollar started to go the other way, it took the average Canadian household 54 weeks of wages to afford a new car. It took the average American household 47 weeks to afford a new car.

This is why the manufacturer's did not want to reduce the price of cars in the USA to compete with the price they would have to pay for them here in Canada.

They simply told dealers "If you knowingly sell an American a new vehicle, we will pull your franchies"

I guess things are different for Canada, being 1/9th the size of USA.

Yeah, I’d really like to see the proof on that one also. We don’t all work in Alberta and Toronto.

Living on the border, you get an idea of what your US counterparts get paid. I just wish I had a US work Visa. I have friends that are now working in Michigan, and they’re making quite a bit more than they did in Ontario for the same job. Don't even get me started on comparing taxes.
