Canadian Sales Sept.
http://www.canadiandriver.com/news/071003-1.htm
"The economy was still very strong in September and prices were coming down with the strong dollar and the huge incentive dollars in play, so there must be other things at work," DesRosiers says. DesRosiers suggests that a weakness in the U.S. dollar, with customer perception that prices are too high, may be to blame, but says "With this story blasted from one end of the media to the other, I'm sure some consumers just sat on their hands. This is how markets work and why I'm not concerned about the price differentials." Sales for September 2007 were as follows: Manufacturer September 2007 September 2006 Per cent change Chrysler 17,011 16,191 +5.1 Ford 13,851 15,294 -9.4 General Motors 31,922 35,166 -6.4 Acura 1,525 2,180 -30.2 Audi 620 850 -27.1 BMW 1,929 1,826 +5.6 Honda 13,317 14,702 -9.4 Hyundai 7,080 6,090 +16.3 Infiniti 471 580 -18.8 Jaguar 58 60 -3.3 Kia 3,330 2,471 +34.8 Land Rover 279 221 +26.2 Lexus 982 957 +2.6 Mazda 7,055 7,044 +0.2 Mercedes-Benz 1,329 1,229 +8.1 Mini 320 291 +10.0 Mitsubishi 1,260 1,015 +24.1 Nissan 5,947 6,544 - 9.1 Porsche 160 128 +25.0 Saab 168 277 -39.4 Smart 31 192 -83.9 Subaru 1,575 1,292 +21.9 Suzuki 1,058 904 +17.0 Toyota 15,910 16,247 -2.1 Volkswagen 2,854 3,176 -10.1 Volvo 785 831 -5.5 Passenger Car 70,783 72,813 -2.8 Light truck 61,044 62,951 -3.0 Total light vehicle sales 131,827 135,764 -2.1 |

Re: Canadian Sales Sept.
I for one can say there is no way I'm buying a new vehicle for 30% more than the US price converted into Can$ when the dollars are at par.
The injustice is all over the news up here. Expect sales to slide in Canada until mfrs lower prices significantly. |

Wow, I didn't expect Chrysler to be ahead of Ford.. has it been like that for a while? I always thought it was GM-Ford-Chrysler-Toyota in Canada.

How bad are the import duties on vehicles here? And if they are bad, why are they on the full size trucks and W bodies which are made out east? |

Re: Canadian Sales Sept.
Interesting how Porsche is one of the few that cut their prices in Canada in recent weeks, and their sales are UP 25%.
Profit margin versus volume...auto manufacturers have to decide which they want. |

Re: Canadian Sales Sept.
I will be saving up to $12,000 by importing a new GMC Canyon.
I’ve heard a lot of Canadian dealers on TV and radio throwing out terms like “grey market vehicle”, and claiming you’re resale value will be crap when you trade the vehicle back in. These vehicles are in fact NOT grey market, and it’s just the Canadian dealers trying to scare people away from importing. I know people that have bought used vehicles in Canada, with the guage cluster in MPH, and they didn’t care. If you keep you’re vehicle for several years like me, this isn’t even a concern. If you’re guage cluster is digital, you’re really lucky. GM Canada does say they void you’re warranty for 6 months and 12,000 km’s in Canada. If I can save $12,000, I probably wouldn’t care if they void the whole warranty in Canada. From what I’ve read, Toyota’s warranty works fine, but Honda completely voids theirs. The Canadian government now has a free course in Toronto on how to import new and used vehicles. http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/events/on/scr-veh-eng.html#loc1 As long as there is this price gap, I will not buy a new Canadian vehicle. |

Re: Canadian Sales Sept.
I will buy out my lease before overpaying for a Canadian car. I was interested in a Saturn Outlook but then I realize Saturn INCREASED the price for '08 in Canada!!!!!! The same car can be had for close to $6000 (plus 6% GST) less in the U.S. Don't tell me customs costs or transport are the reason, I'm a customs broker and transport provider, I know it doesn't cost $6000 to go north of Michigan. Yes, expect auto sales in Canada to slide further.....

Re: Canadian Sales Sept.
I was considering a C6, but the $20K price delta is ridiculous. I contacted GM Canada, and received this rubber-stamp response:
--- In response to your comments regarding the pricing differences between General Motors Corporation (GMC) in the United States and General Motors of Canada Limited (GMCL), we must clarify that these two divisions of General Motors operate independently of each other. There are basic economic differences between Canada and the United States and, as such, vehicle pricing, parts pricing, service pricing and purchase incentives are not concurrent between the two divisions. Canadian pricing is determined in accordance with what the Canadian market dictates or demands. We do not price our vehicles based on US pricing plus exchange. We price our vehicles based on the Canadian marketplace and in order to be in a competitive position. Thank you for contacting General Motors of Canada. Please visit our website again! --- Riiiight. A "competitive position". Well, their "competitive position" cost them yet another customer -- and this one a former dissatisfied GM customer who was willing to give them yet one more chance. |
