I always thought that Canadians supported GM better than Americans, but when the numbers are compared, we are almost the same.

As a general rule, the USA is about 10x as big as Canada, so to make quick comparisons, we multiply Canadian numbers by 10 in order to compare them to the US.

(Comparing CAN/USA
Population: 33.4million / 300million est July 2007
GDP: $1.2trillion / $13 trillion est 2006)

GM sold 32k cars in Canada, while ~320k were sold in the US. Not much difference.

Except that GM went through the trouble of closing dozens of plants in the US, fire thousands of workers so they can open up plants in Canada and hire Canadians. So Canadians could consider some of the GM cars and trucks they build with their own hands as domestic.

Canada also builds certain Hondas and Toyotas, so does that make them "domestics" as well?

I guess, if they feel that the Japanese are their kin and Americans not.

It is funny that trucks are down so much and cars are up because I am seeing so many Lambdas and GMT-900 pickups lately.
Chrysler was doing employee pricing last year too, and interest rates were lower on most models. The slight bump was actually growth, and it shows. I work in Chyslers #1 market, and all the numbers last month were big.

This is pretty much expected. Canadian sales usually fare better than the United States sales.

Most Canadians consider the Domestic auto industry part of their own due to the long history of our association. However we are subject to the same media brain washing as you are so that accounts for the similar patterns developing.

Americans were not fired so that they could open up plants and hire Canadians. In recent years many Canadians have lost jobs do to the big 3 layoff's (including myself). The only difference is the cuts have not run as deep here in Canada (Mainly because of lower health care costs to companies).

What plants has GM opened in Canada in the past year? You honestly think they closed plants in the US so that they could open them in Canada?
