As boring as the Impala might be, in terms of looks, it's overall not a bad car; considering it was May's Second best selling car. Can't imagine what the up and coming Malibu might do!

WOW, way to go Impala! Hopefully Malibu will be able to take it's place in terms of sales, etc (which I think it will for sure, in time) but you've got to wonder what GM is thinking here.

I really wonder what's behind Impala's results, but just look at the Grand Prix! We all know it's almost 100% fleet sales, but how badly must the LaCrosse be doing... BMW's results are also impressive.

In this thread: http://www.gminsidenews.com/forums/s....php?p=1087390

There is a link to the vehicles with the highest fleet percentage. The Grand Prix is 77.6% fleet and the Impala is 53.9% fleet. I have no idea what the fleet percentage was on these cars a year ago, but it seems odd that GM is reducing fleet sales while at the same time practically having fleet only models.

It would be so weird to buy a new Grand Prix, only to learn that only 22.4% of them are being sold to retail customers. That's almost Crown Vic territory (91.3%).

Not really. By shifting sales volume to the Grand Prix, which was largely forgotten by retail customers anyway, GM helps protect the Impaler and put more of the fleet duty off of it.

PS. OTOH, why would GM protect the LaCrosse rather than the GP is beyond me...

PS2. Wait a moment... Did this thread just say that the all-new Dodge Avenger is almost 80% fleet? Now you should go and ask Chrysler Corporation why would they design an ALL-NEW fleet-only model!

PS3. On consideration, Chrysler's attitude to desigining cars has recently become "we simply don't care anymore", which bodes well for an automaker who wants to spare itself the fuss of appealing to retail customers and shift to being fleet only. They can convert their dealerships to regional fleet service centres with huge lots and self-propelled pieces of plastic that can be leased for half of what a real car would cost...

Well, GM sold about 80,000 Impalas to fleets through the first half of 2007 and only about 32,000 Grand Prixs to fleets. So in percentage terms, they may be "protecting" the Impala from some fleet sales, but in terms of absolute numbers, the Impala is still very much a fleet car (since more than half of its sales YTD were to fleets!)

Automotive News says you're right, too. And the AutoNews May 2007 sales figure matches the AOL article's number, so AOL apparently has something wrong (14,279 sold in May 2007 vs. 14,940 sold in May 2006).

Simple, they have spent at least some development money in the LaCrosse more recently than the 2004 upgrades in the Gran Prix. 29.7% or so fleet for Lacrosse by the way.

The Impala outselling the Accord looks pretty good. I know a large percentage is fleet but it still seems like a big deal to the average customer.

Re: Best Selling Sedans of May, 2007

If Pontiac wants to get more vehicles on there, they NEEd to build the Firebird Trans Am again, and build the actual concept version of the Aztek. The Aztek was ahead of it's time, and would be awesome now if it were released with the styling of the 1999 concept version.

Something's wrong with that list. The Civic and Corolla aren't mentioned, and they're staunch top-10 sellers for over a decade now. And I'm sure the Cobalt and Malibu should be on a top-10 selling sedan list.

The average consumer doesn't know, and probably doesn't care.
